Purpose
The purpose of this document is to explain the steps for using the new flow meter tool,
for the LightSheer Family systems.

Applicable ECO: ECO-0007043

Background
The flow meter tool, P/N SP-1175419, can be used by the CE determine good coolant
flow in the system. The flow meter tool is compatible with all LightSheer family of
systems.
The flow meter tool is used to check good coolant flow in the following cases:
 burn clusters on the diode array of the HS HP occurred (See Tmail 9285)
 When troubleshooting cooling issues
 As part of annual preventive maintenance activities

The meter’s flow indicator float rises to the level >16 GPH (Gallons per hour, or 60 l/hr),
which indicates that the coolant flow is working at a nominal level; 20 GPH is the
maximum optimal level.
To read the flow meter, observe the position of top of the float in relation to the
gradation marks.

Required Tools
 Flow Meter Tool SP-1175419
 Standard tool kit

Estimated Time 1 hour

Kit Contents
The flow meter tool Kit SP-1175419 includes the flow meter tool and the instructions for
use PB-1175419 (this document).

Procedure
NOTE: The procedure is the same for all of the systems in
the LightSheer Family.

Before proceeding with this procedure, check that the

reservoir is filled as required; refill with coolant if needed.
Also, check that the coolant filter isn’t blocked; clean the
filter if needed.

1. Turn off the system and disconnect the system from the main wall power.
2. Open the system covers according to the service manual.
3. Place some dry paper towel to prevent drops of coolant from getting on the
system.
4. Connect a handpiece to the system.
5. Create a “bypass between the particle filter and the cooling pump IN connector:
a. Disconnect the Flow IN tube of the flow meter tool.

b. Disconnect the Cooling pump IN connector tube.

6. Connect the Cooling pump IN connector tube to the Flow IN meter tool.
7. Connect the Flow OUT end of the tube to the cooling pump IN connector.

9. Connect the system to the main wall power and turn on the system. Verify that
there is no coolant leakage from the system.
10. Go to Service mode, the relevant DIAG screen (related to the handpiece
currently connected), and turn ON the Heat exchanger.
11. Let the system run for 10-15 minutes, during this time turn the heat exchanger
Off/On 2-3 times periodically in order to achieve coolant flow without air bubbles.

NOTE: When the heat exchanger is OFF, the float should go down; when turned
ON, the float should rise up.
12. Observe the flow meter float (read the float from its top edge); the meter’s flow
float should rise to the level >16 GPH (Gallons per hour, or 60 l/hr), which
indicates that the coolant flow is working at a nominal level; 20 GPH is the
maximum optimal level.

13. If the coolant flow meter tool indicates poor coolant flow in the system (< 16
GPH), it indicates that there exists a blockage in one of the tubes, or the filter is
blocked. Troubleshoot the problem: check tubes, filter, check for leakage.
14. Turn off the heat exchanger, shut down the system, disconnect the flow meter
tool and re-connect the pump IN tubes.
15. Turn the system back on and check for any coolant leakage.
16. In Service Mode, turn ON the heat exchanger and verify that there is no leakage.
