INTRODUCTION

!‫ رب اﻟﻌﺎﻟﻤﯿﻦ و اﻟﺼﻠﻮة و اﻟﺴﻼم ﻋﻠﻰ ﺳﯿﺪ اﻟﻤﺮﺳﻠﯿﻦ اﻣﺎ ﺑﻌﺪ‬9 ‫اﻟﺤﻤﺪ‬

The science of Sarf plays a vital role in understanding the Arabic sciences, so much so that it has been
referred to as ‫( ام اﻟﻌﻠﻮم‬the mother of the sciences). Studying the science of Sarf with full commitment
and dedication leads to a complete understanding of Arabic word forms (seeghas) and their meanings,
up to the extent whereby no form of difficulty arises when doing so.

For a long time the need was felt for a book which would be comprehensive yet simple for the beginner
student to gain the greatest benefit when initially studying this science.

‫ ﻋﻠﻰ اﺣﺴﺎﻧﮫ‬9 ‫اﻟﺤﻤﺪ‬, the Majlis ‘al-Madinah tul `Ilmiyyah’ of the worldwide, non-political, propagational
movement of Qur’an and Sunnah, Dawat e Islami, has undertaken the task to fulfil this need in the
form of ‘Nisab ul Sarf’, which ‫ﺑﺤﻤﺪ ﷲ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬, has both of the attributes mentioned above (being both
comprehensive and simple).

As much as possible, this book has been presented in a style that is as easy as possible and exercises
have been appended to the end of every lesson to increase the benefit of this book. Furthermore, word
meanings have been given in brackets where necessary and Khaasiyaat ul Abwab have also been
briefly summarised at the end of the book in order to increase the comprehensiveness of this book. In
addition to this, beneficial points and more than 50 important difficult word forms (with Ta`leelaat)
from `Ilm ul Seeghah have been included, so that the necessity of `Ilm ul Seeghah could be covered to
some extent.

Despite all best efforts, if people of knowledge [of this subject] come across any printing or scholarly
mistakes in this publication, they are requested to contact the Majlis and to thereby become a recipient
of the gratitude of the Majlis.

We supplicate to Allah ‫ ﻋﺰ و ﺟﻞ‬to extend the compassionate shadow of all the scholars of the Ahlus
Sunnah over our heads and allow us to gain benefit from their blessings. We ask Allah ‫ ﻋﺰ و ﺟﻞ‬to grant
success to all departments of the worldwide, non-political, propagational movement of Qur’an and
Sunnah, Dawat e Islami, including Majlis Al-Madīnat Ul 'Ilmiyyah
