3) Laboratory mask
Face mask use in laboratories can range from lightweight procedure masks providing
coverage to mouth, nose, and sensitive facial skin to sturdy surgical masks with fluid-
resistant eye shield attachments. Respirator masks are critical in settings that may put the

LABORATORY ACTIVITY #1
LABORATORY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND SYMBOLS
A. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
1) Laboratory Gown
A loose-fitting white coat with deep pockets that is worn in a laboratory or
medical facility. Provide protection of skin and personal clothing from incidental
contact and small splashes. Prevent the spread of contamination outside the lab
(provided they are not worn outside the lab.)
2) Laboratory goggles
Essentially, goggles are safety glasses that fit tightly to the eye, often with suction, and are
secured with a strap that goes around the back of the head. Goggles may be used to protect
the eye against particles, chemicals, water, glare and from things striking the eyes.
4)Laboratory hand gloves
Disposable nitrile gloves are appropriate for most laboratory tasks. Nitrile is more chemical-
and tear-resistant than latex gloves. Moderate-High: Handling corrosives, toxins, and or
materials that readily penetrate the skin.
