Asami of the Twelve Skies

"An Innocent Looking Angel of Ezra"

In the infinite plains of the Abyss anything is possible. Asami of the

Twelve Skies is one such possibility. Born in Twelve Trees from an incubus

and an asimaar, Asami is a cambion, in the true sense of the word. By some

strange quirk of genetics, magic or fate he can assume the form of a deva

for long periods of time. In its natural form he is a black-skinned pointed

eared fiend, but he can also change at will into an angelic form and

maintain it until his temper gets the best of him.

Surviving in the Abyss is not easy for a normal cambion, and for one with

his abilities it was almost impossible. Luckily Panzuriel recognized his

worth and sent him and his father to the Prime where he trained as a spy,

infiltrator and assassin. He excelled at the craft and was usually sent by

Panzuriel to lots of prime material world to act as the word of the gods,

inspiring the population to commit evil acts. Possessing an amulet of Lawful

Good alignment he rocked worlds with a series of religious wars. It was

during one such war that, to escape from his enemy, the avatar of a greater

god, he was forced to call some mysterious dark powers for help as he was

about to be destroyed. And those Dark Powers eagerly answered.

At the same time in Ravenloft, Semmorn, an Ezran priest, was performing a

summoning ritual, hoping to call a being of absolute goodness he had read

about in a sacred book, something called a deva. The Dark Powers intervened

and his summoning was botched causing Asami of the Twelve Skies to appear.

The sigils in the floor, designed to act as beacons of good to call the

deva, instead trapped him.

The cleric, who had worked without the knowledge of his superiors in an

abandoned basement of the church, spent long ours talking to the cunning

deva and learning about "good". In the meantime Asami used his suggestion

ability to deviate the cleric from the path of goodness. The cambion had a
powerful magical item, a ring of three corrupt wishes. Asami, after days of

suggestions, let the priest wish and Semmor foolishly wished for "positive

energy to do the work of Asami". The ring granted his wish and Semmor, the

cleric, was infused with positive energy and turned into an ancient dead.

Asami was pleased and polymorphed Semmor so as to make him look like a

cambion.

With the change came the evil of a fiend. Instead of working together, as

Asami thought they would, the cleric left the fiend chained and trapped in

the basement. When Semmor emerged he went into a killing spree and started

desecrating the temple. In the end the people in the temple were killed and

turned into undead, but not before some of them tumbled into what happened.

A young cleric was sent with a message to get someone to help.

Asami is a cambion with some unique abilities. When not in the form of a

deva, he looks just like a regular cambion. When he changes he can pass off

as a deva, as natives of Ravenloft do not have extensive knowledge of those

agents of good. He is a consummate liar and his lies can even make priest

doubt their own faith. When in deva form he only returns to his cambion form

when he wills it, or when he is angry and loses control of his abilities, in

that case he turns into a cambion and usually attacks the objecto of his

rage. His phylactery is a symbol of Ezra that Semmor now wears around his

neck. His reality wrinkle is big as he has not been in Ravenloft long and do

not know about land-based powers. His wrinkle covers the entire church. Due

to his strange genetic make-up Asami is vulnerable to normal weapons, but

regenerates 3 hit points per round and has a MR of 50%, but he cannot cast

his four levels of 1st and 2nd level evocation spells.

The Hand that Feeds

The adventure takes place in a recently abandoned temple of the lawful

good branch of Ezra. Ideally it should be set in Necropolis, Mordent and

other lordless domains or domains where the dark lord would not investigate
the reality wrinkle. The Pc´s can be sent to investigate a report about

troubles in temple by the church, stumble by themselves or delivering some

message.

The chief enemy of the adventure is not Asami, but Semmor an ancient dead

looking like a cambion. The adventure is basically a clue gathering one,

with some dungeon crawling in the upper levels of the temple thrown in the

mix, with a final confrontation with the ancient dead "fiend". After the

battle the PC´s will discover the chained "deva"

and would have to talk to him.

What they do from here is their own choice. The will probably help him

escape, not knowing who he really is (a good recurrence), only to find the

diary of Semmor afterwards talking about the evil deva.

Clues left in the church may tip them to the nature of the deva, or the

anger of Asami at the PC´s may cause his facade to slip, forcing a

confrontation with the fiend. Or Asami might give them the last "wish" from

his ring.

The adventure relies in misdirection and deception on part of the DM.

Many of the clues are false, and many will point to Semmor and not to Asami.
