Exercise 1
What is big data analytics? Big data analytics is the use of advanced analytic
techniques against very large, diverse data sets that include structured, semi-structured
and unstructured data, from different sources, and in different sizes from terabytes to
zettabytes.
What is the difference between data life cycle and data analysis process?
The data life cycle deals with transforming and verifying data; data analysis is
using the insights gained from the data. The data life cycle deals with the stages that
data goes through during its useful life; data analysis is the process of analyzing data.
Sources include audio files, documents, email, file storage, images, log data,
social media posts, streaming video and user clickstreams.
What are the steps in big data analytics? What are the stages of data analytics life cycle?
The Big 6 Steps Data analytics involves mainly six important
phases that are carried out in a cycle:
Data Mining. Data discovery,
Data Collection. Data preparation,
Data Storing. Planning of data models,
Data Cleaning. the building of data models,
Data Analysis. communication of results,
Data Consumption. and operationalization

What is formal data collection?
A formal data collection process is necessary as it ensures that the data gathered are
both defined and accurate. This way, subsequent decisions based on arguments
embodied in the findings are made using valid data.
