4. Hydrometer analysis – 250ml glass beaker, sodium hexametaphosphate, dispersion
cup, stirring apparatus, Glass measuring cylinder (jar), 1000ml, hydrometer, 75 µ
Sieve, sodium carbonate, Hydrogen peroxide, stop watch, rubber cover, scale.
5. Specific gravity – Pyknometer bottles with stopper, balance readable and accurate to
0.001g. Distilled water, filler, heater.
6. Liquid limit and Plastic limit – Liquid limit device (Casagrende) grooving tool,
Spatula, Air tight Container, surface for rolling, 3mm dia rod.
7. Triaxial shear test – Proving ring 1000kg/cm2, dial gauge of LC 0.01mm, Spilt
mould, Spatula, metal scale, Non-Corrodible Metal or plastic End Caps, Seamless
Rubber Membrane, membrane stretcher, airtight container, porous stones, rubber
rings, triaxial cell, Triaxial testing unit with vacuum chamber, soil lathe, wax or oil.
8. Direct shear - Loading frame, proving ring, dial gauge, shear box, sample frame,
tamping rod, Metal weights 05,1 and 1.5.
9. Consolidation test – Consolidation cell, Consolidation ring, porous stones, filter
paper, dial gauge, loading device, straight edge, metal weights.
