1.1 Overview
These instructions describe how to configure the DICOM options in the ACUSON NX3TM
and ACUSON NX3 EliteTM Ultrasound Systems.
CAUTION
Authorized Service Personnel Only
The installation and service of the equipment described here are to be performed
by qualified personnel who are employed by Siemens or one of its affiliates or
who are otherwise authorized by Siemens or one of its affiliates to provide such
services.
Assemblers and other persons who are not employed by or otherwise directly
affiliated with or authorized by Siemens or one of its affiliates are directed to
contact one of the local offices of Siemens or one of its affiliates before at‐
tempting installation or service procedures.
CAUTION
The system contain components that are sensitive to damage by electrostatic dis‐
charge (ESD).
Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD protective equipment in‐
cluding an ESD wrist strap when the protective covers are removed from the
system.
CAUTION
The system contain hazardous voltages that can range from 90 VAC to 264 VAC
and cause serious injury or death.
Only authorized or Siemens-trained service personnel are permitted to re‐
move protective covers and access the energized components of this system.
If unexplained failures occur, contact the Siemens Customer Care Service Center.
1.1.1 Workflow
1. Configure the DICOM option
2. Prepare the system for DICOM install
3. Setup the DICOM configuration
4. Configure the DICOM printers
4. Select DICOM.
Fig. 3: Healthcare > Services > IT Standards - DICOM
A DICOM Connectivity license is a standard feature of ACUSON NX3 Elite. DICOM Con‐
nectivity for the ACUSON NX3 is a sales option.
2. Select DICOM from the menu. The system displays the DICOM Active Setup window.
Fig. 6: Presets Main Menu - DICOM
To configure a new device, click the “New” button located under the list. A blank setup
window is displayed for data entry.
2. For each device to be modified, click Edit to display the device configuration data: Lo‐
cal Host, Storage Server, Worklist Server, MPPS, BW Printer, Color Printer, and Query/
Retrieve.
When the Host field on the Active Setup window is modified, a dialog box announces
the restart of the DIMAQ software. The restart takes approximately three (3) minutes to
complete.
1. Click New located under the Local Host tab to configure a new host.
Fig. 8: DICOM Configuration - Local Host Tab
2. Enter the data as described in step 4 through step 10. Use the values recorded in
( Appendix C: General Network Configuration Checklist / Page 58). After entering
the data click Apply or Cancel.
Fig. 9: DICOM Configuration - Local Host - Save or Cancel
It is recommended that the DHCP not be used, because it generally is not accepted in
most medical fields.
DHCP automatically assigns and IP Address; therefore, when DHCP is selected, the IP Ad‐
dress cannot be set manually.
If the desired storage server already exists on the system, skip to step 3.
1. Click New located under the Storage Server list to configure a new storage server.
Fig. 10: DICOM - Storage Server Tab and New Shown
The value for the Write Time-out in Seconds and Connect Time-out in
Seconds should remain set to 30, unless the customer specifies another values.
This allows DICOM negotiation to select the appropriate image format, unless a specific
format is required by the site. If a specific image format is required, select Old Ultra‐
sound or Secondary Capture.
5. Click Ping to perform an internet protocol Ping of the selected storage server device.
A successful ping indicates that the selected device is connected to the network, ener‐
gized, and correctly configured to communicate using TCP/IP. The Ping and Echo func‐
tions become operational only after the DIMAQ host has been registered from the Host
Setup window.
6. Click Echo to perform a DICOM network echo test similar to the ping test.
After the destination device is configured, the Echo function attempts to verify that the
selected storage server is capable of DICOM communications.
If the desired worklist server already exists in the system , skip to step 3.
1. Click New located below the Worklist Server list to configure a new worklist server.
Fig. 16: DICOM - Worklist Server Tab and New
2. Enter the data as described in step 4 through step 7 below. Use the values recorded in
( 3. General Network Configuration Checklist (Appendix C) / Page 55) After entering
the data click Apply or Cancel.
Fig. 17: DICOM - Worklist Server Setup Window
5. Click Echo to perform a DICOM network Echo test similar to the Ping test.
After the destination device is configured, the Echo function attempts to verify that the
selected storage server is capable of DICOM communications.
2. Click the NEW button under MPPS Server or go to step 3 to edit an existing server.
Fig. 23: DICOM - MPPS Tab Shown
13. Click Ping. The system performs an internet protocol ping of the selected MPPS server.
A successful ping indicates that the selected device is connected to the network, ener‐
gized, and correctly configured to communicate using TCP/IP. The Ping and Echo func‐
tions become operational only after the DIMAQ host has been registered from the Host
Setup window.
15. Click Echo. The system performs a DICOM network echo test similar to the ping test.
After the destination device is configured, the Echo function attempts to verify that the
selected MPPS server is capable of DICOM communications.
16. Click Save to save the changes to the image format and the time-out data.
If the desired DICOM Printer already exists on the system, skip to step 3.
1. Click New under the Printer list to configure a new DICOM BW printer.
Fig. 29: DICOM - BW Printer Tab Shown
2. Enter the data as described in step 3 through step 26 below. Use the values recorded
in ( Appendix C: General Network Configuration Checklist / Page 58). After entering
