4 1 DICOM Configuration

1.1 Overview
These instructions describe how to configure the DICOM options in the ACUSON NX3TM
and ACUSON NX3 EliteTM Ultrasound Systems.

 CAUTION
Authorized Service Personnel Only
The installation and service of the equipment described here are to be performed
by qualified personnel who are employed by Siemens or one of its affiliates or
who are otherwise authorized by Siemens or one of its affiliates to provide such
services.
 Assemblers and other persons who are not employed by or otherwise directly
affiliated with or authorized by Siemens or one of its affiliates are directed to
contact one of the local offices of Siemens or one of its affiliates before at‐
tempting installation or service procedures.

 CAUTION
The system contain components that are sensitive to damage by electrostatic dis‐
charge (ESD).
 Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD protective equipment in‐
cluding an ESD wrist strap when the protective covers are removed from the
system.

 CAUTION
The system contain hazardous voltages that can range from 90 VAC to 264 VAC
and cause serious injury or death.
 Only authorized or Siemens-trained service personnel are permitted to re‐
move protective covers and access the energized components of this system.

 If unexplained failures occur, contact the Siemens Customer Care Service Center.

1.1.1 Workflow

1.1.2 Required Materials

None

1.1.3 Required Tools

None

1.1.4 Required Time

Approximately 30 minutes (depending on the customer environment) are required to per‐
form this procedure. The time to configure wireless is not included. For NX3 the time to
configure DICOM connectivity license is also not included.

1.1.5 System Preparation

1. Contact the network and printer administrators at the customer site and obtain the
connection parameters required for the ultrasound system to connect to the customer
network.
2. Record the connection parameters. Refer to ( Appendix A: Wireless Configuration
Checklist / Page 54).
3. Refer to ( Test DICOM Devices / Page 48) for the latest qualified DICOM storage
servers and printers.

 DICOM devices have been tested for connectivity only.

1.1.5.1 DICOM Operation Information

The DICOM option implements computer networking standards for transmitting medical
images over the customer network. In the systems, DICOM protocols allow ultrasound
systems attached to the network to transmit images to a DICOM server and to DICOM
printers.
A DICOM Host, DICOM Storage Server, DICOM Modality Worklist Server, or a DICOM Print‐
er configured properly perform DICOM storage, worklist, and printing operations activa‐
ted from the DICOM windows in the system software.

location: Services > DICOM > Ultrasound > ACUSON NX3 or ACUSON NX3 Elite.

1.6.1 Tested DICOM Workstations and Storage Servers

Although the ultrasound system should be able to communicate effectively with any well
designed DICOM device, occasionally there are differences in implementations that cause
conflicts and/or unexpected behavior. Therefore, Siemens conducts on-going inter-opera‐
bility testing with a variety of third party DICOM devices.

 CAUTION
Verify only Siemens-approved devices are used.
 Siemens is not responsible for damage or injury resulting from the use of non-
Siemens approved devices.
