Note:
System software version displayed in the Browser for Senographe
Essential is not ADS software version.
From Vitality system version, the one displayed in the Browser will
be:
• "Senographe Essential 54.20" for Core system
• "Senographe Essential 54.20 / CESM 1" for system with CESM option
activated

1. PREPARE INSTALLATION - PERIPHERAL FEATUR-


ING

CAUTION
If you install the ADS Software from another ADS version, a full in-
stallation from scratch is required.
A complete AWS software installation (from scratch) takes about 90
minutes.
A version update (installation from warm) takes between 40 and 90
minutes.
Before installing software, please check out the peripheral featuring deliv-
ered with your system according to references listed below, and set the cor-
rect peripheral on OS and software installing.
• Monitors

2. INSTALL FROM SCRATCH

CAUTION
Installing from scratch will erase all data. Before starting, make sure
all images have been safely backed-up or archived.
Note down the ADS parameters as indicated in chapter System
Identification and Follow-up of the Service Information and Proce-
dures manual
Note:
Material needed:
• AWS Operating System DVD-ROM,
• AWS Application DVD-ROM,
• Current IDC software CD-ROM
2-1. Operating System Installation
There are two possibilities:
1. If system is on:
• Load Solaris DVD-ROM into the ADS DVD drive.
• Shut down system
• Once system is OFF
• Switch cart power ON
2. If system is off:
• Switch cart power ON
• Insert quickly Solaris DVD-ROM into the ADS DVD drive
A first screen with "Jumpstart Installation" should appear.
If the "jumpstart installation" message is not displayed on the first
screen, wait for the login or grub prompt. Then, redo the procedure
from step 3.

If the installation still does not start, follow the troubleshooting proce-
dure in section 5.
3. Press <Enter> to start installation.
Solaris installation starts.
2-2. Keyboard layout configuration
1. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor and the spacebar to select an
item.
2. Select the installed keyboard conforming with the P/N list on page 3,
then press F2.
3. To select English language, type "0" and then press <Enter>.
! Notice:
Do not select anything else but US English. This is the Operating
System installation language, not the application language.
Note:
In order to be able to type, the mouse must be inside the window.
4. To begin the installation process, click Next in the window.
2-3. Network parameters configuration
1. Select Networked for network connection (even if the system is not
connected to a network). Click Next.
2. Select e1000g0 as the primary network interface.
3. Select No for DHCP. Click Next.
4. Enter system Hostname (as given by your network administrator).
Click Next.
Note:
Make sure the hostname length you enter is shorter than 12 char-
acters. Using hostnames longer than 12 characters will cause DI-

COM connectivity problems. Contact your network administrator if
needed.
5. Enter AWS primary IP address (as given by your network administra-
tor). Click Next.
6. Enter your Netmask value (do not guess, ask your network administra-
tor) and click Next.
7. Select No for Enable Ipv6. Click Next.
8. Select none as the default route for e1000g0. Click Next.
9. Select No for Kerebos Security. Click Next.
10. Select None for the Name Service and click Next.
11. Select Use the NFSv4 domain derived by the system. Click Next.
2-4. Date and time configuration
1. Select Offset from GMT to set date and time zone. Click on Next.
2. Set a 0-hour GMT offset and click Next.
3. Change dates and time if required and click Next.
4. Enter the root password twice and click Next.
5. Deselect the option "I would like to register using My Oracle Support
Information". Click Next.
6. Click Next without filling in the fields.
7. Check the accuracy of the information, then click Confirm.
2-5. OS installation finalization
Note:
No action is required at this point of the installation
1. Wait for the following messages to appear:
Starting Solaris installation program
Searching for JumpStart directory
rules.ok found on CDROM
Using Profile: profile
Installing 64 bit Solaris packages
Verifying disk Configuration
Verifying space allocation

.......
Remove the DVD and press <Enter> to reboot the system
The installation is complete.
2. Remove the ADS DVD-ROM from the DVD-ROM drive of the ADS
Computer, then press <Enter>.
The system reboots.
3. After the complete reboot of the system, wait until the following mes-
sage appears and invites you to continue:
*************************************************
* OS installation of ADS performed successfully *
* now log as root and type *
* /install_ads_appli *
*************************************************

2-6. Application Software Installation


1. Follow the instruction as displayed in the previous message:
• Log in as root, then enter the corresponding password.
• Type
{Hostname}/install_ads_appli
Hit <Enter>  to install from CD-ROM,
or type “net” to install from network:
2. Press <Enter> for installation from the DVD.
Insert ADS Application CD in drive.
Hit <Enter>  when CD inserted or q to quit
3. Insert the ADS Application Software DVD into the DVD drive of the
ADS Computer, then press <Enter>.
The installation starts automatically. When the installation is completed,
do not follow the on screen instructions for removing the cdrom or
floppy from the station. Press <Enter>. The system reboots twice. Do
not login as sdc after the first reboot. It takes about one minute for the
second reboot to start. After the second reboot is completed, you can
remove the DVD from the optical device.

4. Log in as sdc. In the displayed window, enter:
User: clinical
(and corresponding password clinical)
2-7. Monitor resolution configuration
1. From behind the Browser, right click on the background, and from the
Root menu, select Service Tools > Command window.
A Command window appears with an ADS prompt.
2. Change to the ~sdc/senovision/scripts directory, by entering:
cd ~sdc/senovision/scripts
3. Specify the monitor resolution and pitch, by entering:
SetMonitorConfig.sh RESOLUTION PITCH
where the RESOLUTION and PITCH vary according to the list provided
in Table 2 below.
For example, if you have the 18” monitor (2403951-4), enter:
SetMonitorConfig.sh 1MP 90

4. The systems asks for the root password twice, enter it.
5. Reboot the system, by entering:

Note:
The system does not reboot automatically.
The ADS software is now installed. The CD tools and IDC files now

need to be updated on the AWS.
2-8. Post-installation steps
1. On the AWS screen background, right click to open the Root Menu.
Select Service Tools, then Command Window.
2. In the window, type:
su - root
and then enter root password
Then type:
{Hostname} cd ~sdc/install
{Hostname} install.cdr
Remove CDROM if asked by the script, then press "Return"
3. On the AWS background screen, right click to open the Root Menu.
Select Restart Browser.
4. If the command window has been closed, right click to open the Root
Menu. Select Service Tools, then Command Window.
5. Login as root by typing:
su - root
and then enter root password.
6. At the prompt, type:
{Hostname} cd ~sdc/senovision/scripts
{Hostname} Update_IDC_Files
7. Follow instructions: Load IDC application CD-ROM on AWS DVD drive.
When End of script is displayed and CD-ROM automatically
ejected, files are updated.
If an error message appears, the loading has failed.
8. Do not forget to connect the bar code reader if necessary and perform
its installation according to the SIP.
9. Reboot the system.
10. Verify Installation as described in section 4.

3. UPDATE FROM CD-ROM

Note:
Only the AWS Application DVD-ROM and the current IDC Software
CD-ROM are needed.
A version update without OS installation can only be performed
when the ADS SW version is the same as the previously installed.

CAUTION
First note down the ADS parameters as indicated in chapter Sys-
tem Identification and Follow-up of the Service Information and Pro-
cedures manual.
1. Shut down and reboot the AWS workstation.
2. At the login prompt log in as root.
3. Load the AWS Application DVD-ROM into the drive, then enter:
{Hostname} cd /cdrom/cdrom0/jumpstart
{Hostname} update.ads
4. The Console and AWS Installation windows are displayed:

AWS installation will take between 40 and 90 minutes.

7. Wait about one minute; messages indicating the following actions are
displayed.

Verify that all operations are "successful”.
Note:
GEMSiop package installation can take about an hour, according to
the number of images
Note:
If some packages installation are not “successful”, wait until the end
of the update and start again at the beginning of section 3.
Clean ADS installation files.
“Workstation will reboot in 1 minute. Please wait”
After ADS installation, the system reboots automatically:
8. Log in as sdc.
9. In the displayed window, enter:
User: clinical
(and corresponding password clinical)
10. From behind the Browser, right click on the background, and from the
Root menu, select Service Tools > Command window.
A Command window appears with an ADS prompt.
11. Change to the ~sdc/senovision/scripts directory, by entering:
cd ~sdc/senovision/scripts
12. Specify the monitor resolution and pitch, by entering:
SetMonitorConfig.sh RESOLUTION PITCH
where the RESOLUTION and PITCH vary according to the list provided
in Table 3 below.
For example, if you have the 18” monitor (2403951-4), enter:

13. The systems asks for the root password twice, enter it.
14. Reboot the system, by entering:
reboot
The ADS software is now installed. The CD tools and IDC files now
need to be updated on the AWS.
15. On the AWS screen background, right click to open the Root Menu.
Select Service Tools, then Command Window.
16. In the window, type:
su - root
and then enter root password
{Hostname} cd ~sdc/install
{Hostname} install.cdr
Remove CDROM if asked by the script, then press
"Return"
17. Restart Browser.
After restarting the browser, the CDR read/write icon appears in the
Browser.
18. If the command window has been closed, open a new command win-
dow and login as root:
type:
su - root

and then enter root password.


19. At the prompt, type:
{Hostname} cd ~sdc/senovision/scripts 
{Hostname} Update_IDC_Files 
20. Follow instructions: Load IDC application CD-ROM on the ADS DVD
drive. When End of script is displayed and CD-ROM automatically
ejected, files are updated.
If an error message appears, the loading has failed.
21. Do not forget to connect the bar code reader if necessary.
22. Reboot the system.
23. Verify Installation as described in section 4.
Note:
When starting the application, if the number of the release is not dis-
played on the browser and buttons have text instead of icon, the up-
date procedure must be done again from beginning of section 3.

4. VERIFY INSTALLATION
In order to check proper installation or update, you shall launch the AWS
dr_ads utility, by following the steps below:
1. Reboot the system.
2. Login as sdc
User: clinical
(and corresponding password clinical)
3. On the AWS background screen, right click to open the Root Menu.
Select Service Tools, then Command Window.
4. From this window, login as root:
su - root
(and corresponding password when asked) 
5. Move to the dr ADS directory:
cd /export/home/install/jumpstart/DoctorAds
6. Start dr_ads, launching all tests in a row:
./dr_ads 

Error and warning summaries are displayed by selecting option 82 -
Display latest errors from dr_ads main menu.
Note:
a. If the following error is listed:
Checking existence/permissions of ADS script files...........[ ERROR ]
then check in error and warning summaries that the corresponding
error is the following:
ERROR : /export/home/sdc/senovision/scripts/br/idc/. does not exist.
If so, redo steps 1 to 3 of section 2-8 or steps 15 to 17 of section 3.
b. If the following error is listed:

then check in error and warning summaries that the corresponding
error is the following:

ERROR : It appears the NVIDIA graphic board resolution is not set to
1280 x 1024.
If so, re-install the OS and ADS software as described in section 2.
c. If the following error is listed:
ERROR : Your external network interface e1000g currently runs at
100Mbps.
then the issue can come from the external network or from the Kontron
R2 network card.
You need to confirm that the Kontron R2 network card works properly.
With an ethernet cable, connect the two ADS' ethernet ports together.
Then, on the screen background, right click to open the Root menu.
Select Service Tool, then Command window.
In the window, type:
su - root
and then enter root password.
Type the command:
dladm show-dev
If the Kontron R2 network card works properly, it should be displayed:
e1000g0 link: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full
e1000g1 link: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full
This means that the issue comes from the hospital network. See with
the hospital network's representative to manage it.
Else, the issue can come from both Kontron R2 network card or/and
the external network of the hospital.
9. Press the <CR> key to have access to the Dr ADS menu. Then, press
<e> to exit.
10. After an installation from scratch. In the browser, check the Demo
Patient images are listed:
• If they are present (patient list is not empty), the check is complete.
• ONLY if they are NOT present (patient list is empty), follow
steps 11 to 16. Wait for ALL Demo Patient images to be listed (8
Demo Patient images with 6 processing eContrast1 to eContrast6)
before proceeding with the next step.
11. On the AWS screen background, right click to open the Root Menu.

Select Service Tools, then Command Window.
12. In the window, type the following command (as sdc):
kill.sdc 
The browser is not displayed any more.
13. Insert the AWS Application Software DVD in ADS DVD drive.
14. Create a new directory by entering:
mkdir demoexams 
cd demoexams 
15. Mount the DVD and check it is correctly mounted:
cdromMount 
ls /cdrom/cdrom0 
list of GEMSxxxx packages is displayed
16. Since your system is a Senographe Essential, type the following
command:
cp /cdrom/cdrom0/DemoExams/ESS/*Z . 
17. Restart the Browser, the Demo Patient images should appear after less
than 5 minutes. Wait for ALL Demo Patient images to be listed (8 Demo
Patient images with 6 processing eContrast1 to eContrast6) before pro-
ceeding with the next step.
18. If the Stereotaxy positioner is installed, perform the image plane to car-
bon cover distance calibration as described in Job Card JC-CAL-A002
of the Stereotaxy Service Manual.

5. TROUBLESHOOTING
Note:
When executing the troubleshooting procedure, do not modify any-
thing else but what is described in this procedure.
Make sure "NUMLOCK" is not enabled on the keyboard.
1. Shutdown and reboot the system.
2. Press Delete to enter the BIOS.
3. Press F3 (Defaults optimized), then press Yes.
4. Press F4 (Save and Exit), then press Yes.
