1. Installation Guide
1.1 General
1.1.1 Planning: The installation should be planned in details before commencing. The cables should be
listed in a cable plan, with number of pairs etc. The location of each unit in the communication system
should be planned to obtain maximum performance and user availability.

1.1.2 Power: The operating power is 220VAC 60Hz as primary and same AC or 24VDC as backup. With
automatic switching between primary and secondary power source.

1.1.3 Marking: Each cable is to be marked with cable numbers. Each conductor is to be marked with the
specific termination numbers. Please note that MRC uses plug-able screw terminals in all units.

1.1.4 Fastening: Where applicable, the cables and the conductors shall be clamped to the structure with
cable ties.

1.1.5 Preservation: Prior to, during, and after installation the equipment must be handled with care. And
protected against acid holding fluids, pollution, moist, impacts etc. This is in order to avoid damaged
equipment, for which MRC will claim void warranty.

1.1.6 Cable Requirements: All cables used in the MPA system must be of approved ship cable type.
Requirements:
- Common outer screen
- Individually twisted pairs
- Recommended conductor size is minimum 0.75 mm²
- All cabling in the MPA must be a separate network.
- Do not combine different systems in the same cable. This is to prevent disturbance and noise caused
by interference.

1.1.7 Screen Connection

In order to obtain maximum
performance after installation, it is
necessary to terminate the cables and
ground the screens in a good manner.
The cables are to de-isolated by
removing approximately 500mm of the
outer insulation. Then the screen braid
is cut off approximately 30mm longer
than the outer isolation. The conductors
are to be de-isolated and ferruled
before they are inserted into the
terminals.
The outer screen is clamped to the
cable fixing rails inside the cabinet.
Cable ties of a conductive type (metal)
are recommended for best result.

Fig. 1 The cable outer screens are to be terminated as

shown. Conductive type of cable ties is recommended to
obtain best possible screen connections.

1. General Description
1.1 Features
This sound reception system is acoustic electronic navigational aids to enable the officer on the watch to
hear outside sound signals at totally enclosed
bridge in order to perform the look-out function as
required in the International Regulations for
Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972. and SOLAS
2002(resolution A. 694(17)) revisions.
Thus, this system receives the sound signals in
all directions in the audio frequency 70Hz ~ 820Hz
and re-produces these incoming signals
electrically inside wheel house.
The four microphones operate in pair
depending of the approximate direction of the
received sound signal by these combinations.
The value for detection of sound signal is
75dBA.
The microphone active value of sound level for
detecting direction is more than 0.07mV between
forward and after or port and starboard.

-2. The performance of this system depends upon the installation position of the microphone.
-3. Install the microphone in each side of the bridge wing/bow/stern or bridge top.
The microphones must be separated about 10-meter.
-4. Install the microphone in the place to avoid the wind generated by the ship.
-5. To prevent the howling, do not install a microphone in the entrance, window, and console speaker
or opening and closing door in the wheelhouse.
-6. The microphone U-bracket is fastened securely in place.
-7. When you install the microphone cable, wind the extra cable on the end of cable once more and
fasten it.
-8. To prevent the interference, do not combine the signal cables with other cable type such as power
source. The sound reception system should be connected with the other ones separately.
-9. To do so, protect the microphone from the vibration of the ship.
-10. Also, protect it from the vibration generated by the high sensitivity elements of the microphone.
-11. For sound reliability, the microphone should be installed at silent place
-12. When the howling occurs, turn down the volume until the howling stops.

1. General descriptions
The CAC-953 system is a maritime antenna specially designed for the vessel, as well as a broadband
amplifier that amplifies and distributes overall band such as radio broadcasting including MF, SW and FM,
TV broadcasting including VHF(H/L) and UHF, and VTR signal.
Especially, it is an omni-directional antenna so that it can safely receive the propagation during sailing and
uses the whip antenna to receive the MF/SW signal. It has a built-in broadband amplifier for
AGC(Automatic Gain Control) to prevent the degradation of the propagation received weakly. In addition, it
does not require any maintenance after installation because it is designed firmly. "If the power is supplied
after installation, all the functions are automatically operated."

4. Installations
4.1 Installation Method
The performance of this system depends on the installation method. To install this system,
make sure that you consider the following;
① Install an antenna in a high position to keep away from the metal obstacles.
② Install an amplifier in place where humidity, heat or strong noise do not exist.
③ When you connect coaxial cable, you should not bend it extremely. If you bend it unavoidably,
it should be bent more 6 times than a diameter of coaxial cable.
④ Connect the external shield wires exactly.
⑤ When you connect coaxial cable to each connector, shorten the length of the insulated conductor
as possible.
⑥ When coaxial cable is damaged or cut, you should not connect it at random and should use the
standard connector.
⑦ Connect 75 Ohm of noninductive resistance to each port that is not used.
⑧ Shorten the length of cable as possible.
⑨ To install each terminal, keep the maximum radius from noise source because its field intensity
is low.
⑩ Make sure of using the standard coaxial cable.
⑪ If the length of cable is too long or the number of the distribution exceeds the standard limit,
make sure of using the sub amplifier.(For more information, inquire of the manufacturer)

4.2 Connection Method of Antenna Connector & Coaxial Cable(RG-12U)

Figure 2. Connection Method of Antenna Connector & Cable

① Remove the cable skin approximately 35 mm.
② Solder the shield wire evenly. At this time, note that the part of the solder can make even.
③ As shown in figure, carefully cut the shield wire and insulator in order not to damage the insulated
conductor.
④ Separate the connector, insert its cover to the shield wire and turn its plug in the direction of the
arrow firmly.
⑤ Solder through the plug's hole to firmly connect the shield wire with the connector.
Cut the projecting part from the front and solder the connector's hole.

4.3 Connection Method of Out-Let Box & Coaxial Cable(RG-6)

Figure 3. Connection Method of Out-Let Box & Cable

① Remove the cable skin approximately 18mm.

② Put the shield over the cable skin.
③ Carefully, cut the internal insulator approximately 12 mm.
④ Loose the band of the outlet joint, insert it and tighten it as shown in figure.

4.4 Connection Method of U-P-G Connector & 5C-FB Cable

Figure 4. Connection Method of U-P-G Connector & Cable

① Remove 5C-FB cable as shown in figure. Keep the gap of 4mm and 10mm.
The inner center should not be cut.
② Fully remove the gold-colored shield to the position c.
③ Do not remove the silver foil at the position d.
④ First, insert the support ring to cable and then U-P-G connector to PVC. At this time,
insert the insulator to the position e.
⑤ Place the support ring to the position e and tighten it with a nipper as shown in figure.

5. General Cautions
① If the vessel is in port, the duel image can be displayed due to the reflected wave from building,
crane and mountain. This originates from the omni-directional antenna.
② If this antenna is too near the transmitting antenna of the certain broadcasting station,
the transmission of other broadcasting stations can be extremely degraded. This originates from
the self-AGC operation of the amplifier that prevents the saturation generated by the
strong signal of the certain broadcasting station.
③ Because the short wave has various problems(For example, fading, diffuse reflection, attenuation
and atmospherics), the receiving strength can extremely vary.
④ Make sure that you do not change the circuit and components in this system at your own.
⑤ Connect cable exactly, according to the terminal symbol of the drawing.
⑥ Connect the ground lines in each port to that in cable.
⑦ The reflected wave of the AM wave between transmitting stations is too near compared to that
of TV wave. So, it can be confused with other wave when it is amplified to high gain.
⑧ When the power lamp indicating the ground failure is on, use the recommended insulation cord
to connect TV.
⑨ Adjust the main/sub amplifier of the omni-directional antenna automatically.
⑩ Connect the coaxial cable of the out-let box firmly.
⑪ Carefully connect cable. If a problem occurs in cable, troubleshooting is impossible in fact.
That is why too much time and cost are required to resolve the problems.(Ask manufacturer).

2 General
1.1 Planning
The installation should be planned in details before commencing. The cables should be listed in a cable
plan, with number of pairs etc. The location of each unit in the communication system should be planned to
obtain maximum performance and user availability.

1.2 Power
The operating power is 220VAC 60Hz as primary, and 24VDC as backup. With automatic switching
between primary and secondary power source.

1.3 Marking
Each cable is to be marked with cable numbers.
Each conductor is to be marked with the specific termination numbers.
Please note that MRC uses plug-able screw terminals in all units.

1.4 Fastening
Where applicable, the cables and the conductors shall be clamped to the structure with cable ties.

1.5 Preservation
Prior to, during, and after installation the equipment must be handled with care. And protected against acid
holding fluids, pollution, moist, impacts etc.
This is in order to avoid damaged equipment, for which MRC will claim void warranty.

1.6 Cable Requirements

All cables used in the MCX system must be of approved ship cable type.
Requirements:
- Common outer screen
- Individually twisted pairs
- Recommended conductor size is 0.75 mm²
- All cabling in the MCX must be a separate network.
- Do not combine different systems in the same cable. This is to prevent disturbance and noise caused by
interference.

1.7 Screen Connection

In order to obtain maximum
performance after installation, it is
necessary to terminate the cables
ground the screens in a good
manner.
The cables are to de-isolated by
removing approximately 200 mm of
the outer insulation.
Then the screen braid is cut off
approximately 30 mm longer than
the outer isolation. The conductors
are to be de-isolated and ferruled
before they are inserted into the
terminals.

The outer screen is clamped to the

cable fixing rails inside the cabinet.
Cable ties of a conductive type
(metal) are recommended for best
result. The cable outer screens are
to be terminated as shown. Conductive type of cable ties is recommended to obtain best possible screen
connections.

2.9 Connection diagram among I.S. barrier box (BB-922), telephones and peripheral devices.
This telephone system is designed for intrinsically safe construction and proper ignition grade (IIC
T6) so that it can be communicated in hazardous area where gas can be exploded.
In order to be intrinsically safe, energy and energy storage must be constrained to “safe” levels in
hazardous area apparatus. Wiring inherently has capacitance formed by a dielectric material between
two conductors.

2.9.1 Wiring concept diagram

2.9.2 Detail connection wiring of the I.S. telephone

The A/T barrier box BB-922 is placed in a non-hazardous area up to one 300-meter from the phone,
limiting the energy levels going to the hazardous area to conform to intrinsically-safe requirements.
Where multiple I.S. telephone wires are routed together, shielded cable should be used. The use of
shielded cable prevents cross-talk from occurring between multiple I.S. telephone circuits. The shield
must be grounded to an I.S. ground and connected only at the barrier box.

Typical intrinsically-safe installation

3.6 I.S. Type Telephone (LC-213K, L, M)

This telephone system is designed for intrinsically safe construction and proper ignition grade (IIC T6) so
that it can be communicated in hazardous area where gas can be exploded.
The intrinsically safe construction does not ignite explosive gas or dust when the heat is caused by short
circuit, broken line and ground. Also, it is especially designed for ship to prevent water, humidity and
insects. This system, the telephone set and calling unit, has switch, terminal and replay. In calling, it uses
an air horn in hazardous area, and uses the buzzer and bell in safety area.
The telephone set adapts the low noise OP-AMP, so it improves call tone and side tone. Moreover, it
largely reduces noise incoming through a telephone transmitter; by using the circuit who’s CMRR
(Common Mode Rejection Ratio) is high.
The power is supplied to "JB Box". The current and voltage are limited for explosion-proof architecture.
As shown in figure below, the Intrinsic Safety system is largely divided into two groups; One is telephone
set(Portable) and another is calling unit(Relay and terminal).
