motherland against any attack on the country's dignity and sovereignty.

Every year India celebrates Independence day on August 15. As it is on this day in
1947, India gained Independence from British rule. We celebrate Independence day to
remember our freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to make our country
independent. Our Independence Day is important in every Indian's life as it is the
day we can remember our martyrs who died for the country. Also, it is the only day
we forget all our cultural differences and unite as one true Indian.

On August 15, 2022, India will celebrate the country’s 75th Independence Day from
British rule. At the state level, it was decided to celebrate the anniversary on a
grand scale. For this, a large-scale complex holiday program was developed, called
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. As part of this project, many festive events have already
taken place and will be held. The culmination will be the flag-raising ceremony on
August 15 and mass festivities with colorful fireworks.

two centuries, contributing to India's freedom struggle, including the Swadeshi
Movement, Quit India Movement, and others.

For nearly 200 years, Britishers ruled India. Every Indian’s life was difficult and
depressing during British colonial rule. Indians were treated as slaves with no
freedom of expression. Indian rulers were nothing more than puppets in the hands of
British officers. Indian fighters were treated cruelly in British camps, and
farmers went hungry because they couldn’t grow crops and had to pay high land

The Indian Independence movement began during World War I and was led by Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi. The Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the British House
of Commons on July 4, 1947, and was passed within a fortnight. It marked the end of
over 200 years of British rule on August 15, 1947. Many leaders played a prominent
role in the Indian freedom struggle, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru,
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose,
and many more.

Freedom struggle: It focuses on and celebrates the countless freedom fighters who
had helped India achieve freedom from the British. Programs under this theme
include Birsa Munda Jayanti (Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas), Declaration of Provisional
Government of Free India by Netaji, Shaheed Diwas etc.

different.

This Mahotsav (or the grand celebration) is dedicated to the people of India who
have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary
journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of
Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
