Electroencephalogram Report: Cepedoza, Gypsy Mariz Mar 150022928861 NEUR10046889 OPD
TECHNICAL SUMMARY
The patient is awake at the start of the recording. In the awake state, the background activity is
of well-modulated 8-10 Hz alpha with the highest voltages seen over the posterior head regions.
The alpha is reactive to eye opening and closing. As the recording continues, the patient drowses
to sleep. Stage II sleep is reached with formation of sleep spindles, sleep sharp transients and K
complexes. The background activity in the sleep state is of 3 Hz delta and 4-7 Hz theta activity
with low voltaged beta seen superimposed in the background. As the recording continues, there are
frequent bursts of spikes, polyspike and wave complexes over both frontal areas with secondary
generalization. No clinical correlates are seen with these discharges. After the discharges, the
background activity shifted to a 1-2 Hz delta activity. The patient remains in the sleep state
until the end of the recording.
Photic stimulation recording done at different flash rates elicits occipital driving response.
Hyperventilation done for 3 minutes reveals the previously described epileptiform activity,
lasting for 10 seconds, but without clinical correlates.
EKG monitoring reveals a sinus arrhythmia at 84/min.
EEG CLASSIFICATION: Abnormal Significance III
1. Spike, polyspike and wave complexes - focal, bilateral frontal areas with secondary
generalization
INTERPRETATION
This EEG recording is abnormal showing a frequent bursts of focal epileptiform discharges with
secondary generalization. The awake background activity is normal for age.
