1.Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST)

ANSWER:

“It's the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom.” Michael Morpurgo.

Our educational curriculum is just a raw material or what we say the uncooked recipe

which needs to be heated and served at its best as a food that will make every child’s

mind and soul healthy. Given this raw material, there’s a need to have a qualified person

that will make sure that it will be cooked and served at its best and they are what we

called teachers.

Teachers play a vital role in education that is why the Department of Education

must hire guided by following high standards. The Philippine Professional Standards or

the PPST for Teachers defines teacher quality in the Philippines. The standards describe

the expectations of teachers' increasing levels of knowledge, practice, and professional

engagement. These standards shall be the basis for all learning and development
programs for teachers to guarantee that teachers are properly equipped to effectively

implement the educational curriculum. It can also be used for the selection and promotion

of teachers. Also, this set of standards, shall be the basis for all performance appraisals

of teachers.

As one of the millions of teachers, I agree with these standards set for us. I think if

we look at on a positive side it is not to critique us but instead to inspire us to be the best

versions of ourselves in capacitating learning. These standards set for us enable us to be

good and qualified teachers even in a fast-changing world. This allows us to adapt to

various changes given to us by national and global challenges whether economic or

health. This will only be possible if teachers like us are open in attending development

programs prepared for us for, I believe that quality education is dependent with quality

teaching. One of the best examples of this is our RPMS or the Results-Based

Performance Management System which is done every year which needs to be aligned

with the PPST. This is a tangible material that will help school heads to track their teachers

in terms of delivering quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education among

learners. This also the best material to be considered in making developmental plans in

the future.

As newly hired teacher in public school, I think this serves me best for it serves as

my guiding tool to do my duties and responsibilities expected from me. Also, through my

first-made RPMS, my school head and my co teachers were able to evaluate where at

me in terms of teaching and help me through in achieving my future plans and make

myself better each day.

2. Child Protection Policy (CPP)

ANSWER:

“Children are more than we think they are; they can do more than we think they

can do. All they need is a vote of confidence from grownups, whom they will ultimately

replace anyway. Their dream today will become the realities of tomorrow.” ― Wess

Stafford. They say children are our future generation. They are the bringer of cultures and

values of our nation thus it is a must to protect them in the best ways we can. To legalize

this, a policy was made for them, which is called the Child Protection Policy. One of the

bases of this is our 1987 Philippine Constitution where in Article 11, Section 13 provides

that the State recognizes the vital role of youth in nation building and shall promote and

protect their physical, moral, intellectual, and social well-being. Also, in Article 15, Section

3 which states that the Government must defend “the right of children to assistance,

including proper care and nutrition a special protection from all forms of neglect, abuse,

cruelty, exploitation and other conditions prejudicial to their development.”.

One best way to provide this protection and rights to every child is through giving

them the best education they must have. We can only provide this if we make them feel

that they are safe and comfortable within the portals of their second home which is the

school. To strengthen this, the Department of Education has adopted the policy to provide

special protection to children who are very vulnerable to any circumstances which may

affect their personal development. Furthermore, it also aims to ensure special protection
from all forms of abuse and exploitation considering the responsibilities and duties of their

parents, guardians, or any legal individual. That is why all schools in the Philippines adopt

this policy to ensure safe and conducive environment for every learner.

As an educator, I really admire persons behind this policy. We know for a fact thar

children are the most innocent ones thus they can also be the most vulnerable ones in

our society. Guided with this policy, I think every child is safe and protected and no one

can hurt them in all aspects. As a classroom teacher, I agree with this but of course, we

need to let all children understand not to abuse the rights and opportunities given to them.

We protect them and give the best for them but in return let us make them understand

that they also have their duties and responsibilities even in their early stage of life.

Like in a usual classroom set up where teachers must not touch nor hurt their

students instead do it in a more positive way. Traditional teaching is far more away than

now where rewards and appraisals are being given to children than that of punishments.

We call it positive reinforcements to motivate our learners to be good in school.

3. Inclusive Education Program in the Philippines

ANSWER:
“Leave no one behind.” – one of the major goals of education. Education is a

right that must be given to every citizen of the country especially to our children. It is

an enlightening experience and a powerful instrument towards development thus

everyone must be entitled of this whether you are abled or challenged. To strengthen

this a program entitles Inclusive Education Program in the Philippines was provided to
ensure equal and quality education among all ages and status. This is a Republic Act

(RA) 11560, inked by Duterte on March 11, provides that no learner shall be denied admission based

on their disability. This provides that all schools, whether public or private, shall ensure equitable

access to quality education to every learner with disability. From the word which speaks of itself –

inclusive. It is an education for all not looking at their physical, mental, emotional capabilities as a

learner.

To cater those challenged learners, special education was made ready for them to cater their

needs for learning. As a teacher educator, I really admire this program because and in fact I was

touched by this. In our school, we don’t have this special class where special learners can learn but

since it is inclusive, we make sure that even in normal set-up we can still provide their needs and most

especially we can make them feel acceptable and respected by everyone.

When I was teaching in private school, I had a great experience with special learners. In the

school where I taught for 3 years, children with special needs have their own classrooms and special

teachers who can provide what they need to learn then once they saw that they are ready to face the

normal classroom set-up they are being injected in normal classes but with the guidance of the special

teacher or what we so-called “shadow”. I have handled special learners in a normal set-up. Yes, it was

not easy at first but when you see them learning and adapting to the environment, they are in you can

feel that fulfillment and happiness within and I think that is the essence of being a teacher.
4. RA 9155

ANSWER:

“Transparency increases credibility and accountability.” – Park Won-soon. Our

country considering various good and bad circumstances requires credible and

trustworthy institutions built on principles of transparency and accountability. One of the

biggest institutions in our country is the educational institution which needs to have

righteous and principled leaders to deliver quality education among all learners.

To strengthen this, Republic Act (RA) 9155, also known as the Governance of

Basic Education Act of 2001, was made which provides the overall framework for principal

empowerment by strengthening principal and leadership goals, and local school-based

management within the context of transparency and local accountability. It has something

to do in providing quality education inclusive for all. Thus, this shall begin from the

governance in the national level down to the learning schools and learning centers

therefor the states shall encourage local government units to share their part to improve

education in all aspects. The state shall ensure that educational programs made must

reflect the values and aspirations of the school community to all learners.

Yes, I agree the government has wonderful and desirable plans. We can

see their pure intentions, but these plans and goals will remain plans and goals unless

everyone is doing their part in putting all of these into practice. What I am trying to say is

that all leaders from national down to school heads must be oriented religiously and

fervently until one heart with common goal is achieved. Until every goal run to each blood,
and I think if this will happen no one should be left behind. That even the street children

in the pavements can wear uniform and can hold pencils and write.

This will only be possible if this shared governance in education will be governed

and ruled by principled and accountable leaders who put their heart in developing every

learner.
