CH.15 AREA OF POLYGONS
SOLUTION
Q1. The base of a parallelogram is 3.6 cm. Its height is 2 cm. what is the area?
Area of a llgm = b × h
= 3.6 x 2 = 7.2 sq. cm
Q2. Find the area of a right-angled triangle whose two legs are 7 m and 8 m.
1
Area of triangle = ×b × h
2
1 2
×8 × 7=28 c m
2
Q3. The area of a triangular region is 12,692 m2. The perpendicular from one vertex to the opposite side is
76m. Find the length of this side.
1
Area of triangle = ×b × h
2
1
×b × 7 6=12692 m 2
2
12692
b= =334
38
:. the length of side = 334m
Q4. The area of a triangular region with a base of 32 cm is 288 cm 2. Find its height.
1
Area of triangle = ×b × h
2
1 2
×32 ×h=288 c m
2
288
h= =18
16
:. the height of triangle = 18cm
Q5. The area of a rhombus is 120 cm2. If one diagonal is 20 cm, find the other diagonal.
1
Area of rhombus = ×d 1× d 2
2
1
×2 0 ×d 2=120 c m2
2
120
d 2= =1 2
10
:. other diagonal is = 12 cm

Q6. The diagonal of a quadrilateral is 16m. the off sets are 6m and 8 m. What is the area of the quadrilateral?
1
Area of quadrilateral = ×d × ∑ of off sets
2
1
×16 × ( 6+8 )
2
8 X14 = 112 m2
Q7. The length of two parallel sides of a trapezium are 36 cm and 64cm. The distance between the parallel
lines is 20 cm. What is the area of the trapezium?
1
Area of parallelogram = ×h × ∑ of∥side
2
1
×2 0 × ( 36+ 64 )
2
10 X 100 = 1000c m2
Q8. If the measurements of the sides of a square are doubled, what happens to the area?
Let us have a Square with side 'a'
Area =a 2
If side is doubled side = 2a
A' = (2a)(2a)
=4 a 2
:. The area becomes 4 times the previous one .a 2
