Activity No. 6.1

Directions: Solve the following problems.

1. The base of a triangular prism is a right triangle whose hypotenuse is 65

cm and one of whose legs is 16 cm. A lateral edge of the prism is 10 cm
and makes with the base an angle of 30 degrees. Find the volume of the
prism.

Solution:

V = Bh

V = (65cm)(16cm)(10cm)

V = (1,040cm2)(10cm)

V = 10,400 cm3

2. The lateral area of a right prism is 162sq.m. and the base is a rectangle 3
by 6m. Find the altitude of the prism.

Solution:

S = hp

162 m2 = h (18 m)

162m2 h(18 m)
=
18 m 18 m

h=9m

The altitude of the prism is 9m.

3. The top of a through with triangular cross section is a rectangle 40cm by
100cm and the depth of the through is 30 cm. What is the depth of the
water in the trough when it contains 24 liters of water?

Solution:

V = 24 liters = 24,000 cm3

24,000 = 40 x 100 x depth

24,000 c m3
depth=
40 cm ×100 cm
3
24,000 c m
depth= 2
4,000 c m

depth = 6 cm

The depth of the water in the trough when it contains 24 liters of water is 6cm.
Activity No. 6.2

Directions: Solve the following problems

1. The volume of a rectangular solid is 480 cm3 . If the base is 8 cm by 10cm,

find the total area of the solid.

Solution:

V
h= A=2 ( wl+hl+ hw )
wl

480 c m3
h= A=2 ( 8 × 10+6 ×10+6 × 8 )
8 cm×10 cm
3
480 c m
h= A=2(80+60+ 48)
80 c m 2

h=6 cm A=160+120+96

A=376 cm

The total area of the rectangular solid is 376 cm.

2. The altitude of a right parallelepiped is 20 cm and the base is a rhombus

with diagonals 14cm and 48cm. Find the volume of the parallelepiped.

Solution:

L = 14 cm H = 20 cm W = 48 cm

V = LWH

V = (14 cm) (48 cm) (20 cm)

V = 13, 440 cm3

The volume of parallelepiped is 13, 440 cm 3.

3. The base of a parallelepiped is a rectangle 4m by 6m. If its lateral edge is
8m and is inclined to the base at an angle of 70°, find the volume of the

parallelepiped.

Solution:

h
sinθ=
8

h=8 sin ⁡( 60)

h=6.928

V =4 × 6 ×6.928
3
V =166.272m

The volume of the parallelepiped is 166.272m3.

2. The area of a diagonal section of is 36√2𝑠𝑞. 𝑐𝑚. Find an edge of the cube.

Solution:

√ 2 e=36 √2
e= √36

e=6 cm2
3. The total area of a cubic box is 384 cm2 . Find its volume.

Solution:

The total surface area of a cube = 6a2

The volume of a cube = a3

6a2 = 384

a2 = 64

a = 8 cm

The volume of a cube = (8)3

= 512 cm3

The volume of the cube is 512 cm3.
