3. The weight of a piece of crystal in the form of a regular dodecahedron is 360 lb., and

each of its edges is 10 inches long. What is the weight of a similar piece of crystal

whose edge measures 16 in.?

10 inches x 12 sides x 3 = 360 lb.

So, 16 inches x 12 sides x 3 = 576 lb.

4. Find the length of a diagonal of a regular octahedron if its edges measures 5 cm.

Given: edge measure of a regular octahedron is 5cm

To find: length of diagonal

Solution: we know that the diagonal of octahedron is a diagonal of one of squares.

Diagonal = a√2 = 5√2 cm. Hence, the answer is 5√2 cm.

5. Find the number of edges and the number of vertices of a regular polyhedron whose

number of faces, each of which a triangle, is 20.

V-E+F=2

V = 20 * 3 = 60
E = 20 * 3 = 60

F = 20

60 - 6 0 + 20 = 2

20 = 2

6. Find the total area of a regular octahedron if a diagonal measures 10 m.

According to the diagonal measures 10m. We can caculate the side length is:

√5²+52=52

{ The total area of a regular octahedron is A= 2√3a², a is its side length }

The toral area of a regular octahedron is A=2√3a² = 2√3x (552)² = 100√3= 173.2 sqm.

8. The total area of a regular octahedron is 288 √3 in.², find the measure of one edge.

A = 2 × √3 × edge length²

288√3 = 2 × √3 × a²

288 √ 3

√a² = √144

a = 12 in²

9. Find the volume of a regular dodecahedron if the total area is 2,498 ft².

Ad = 3√25 +10√5 × s²

Ad = 2,298 ft²

Atotal = 12 × Apentagon

2,498 = 12 × 3√25 + 10√5 × s²

2,498
s² =

10. Find the altitude of a regular tetrahedron whose volume is 486 √2 cm³.

Using the formula:

V = a^3 / 6 square root of 2

h = square root 2/3 x a

h = 2/3 x 3%

V^1/3 = 2/3 x 3% x 486^2/3 = 13.09348

11. The total area of a regular dodecahedron is 1,672.3 sq. in. Find the length of an

edge of the platonic solid.

Surface Area = 3√5(5 + 2√5) xs²

1672.3 = 3√5(5 + 2√5) xs²

3√5(5 + 2√5) xs²

√s² = √80.999

s = 9 inches

12. The area of a face of a regular octahedron is √3 m² , find the total surface area and

the volume of the polyhedron.

13. The edges of a tetrahedron measures 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 units. Find the edges of a

similar tetrahedron containing 27 times the volume.

{ Proportional to the corresponding edges are similar }

The sides grow to three sides proportional. So the edge lengths of the similar

tetrahedrons are 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24

17. Verify that the 3 diagnonals of a regular octahedron are equal in length.

Using the pythagorean theorem we can find the length of the diagonals of the square

pyramid.

d = √(a² + a² = √2a²

= √2 × a

Since the regular octahedron is made up of two congruent squae pyramids, the length

of the diagonals of the octahedron is equal in length.

which is = √2 a
