OBE Weeks

One of the first few weeks in each semester is designated as OBE Awareness week at College of
Engineering. All engineering program students especially the junior students are mentored by senior
students and Faculty about the new grading system under OBE. Course CLOs and their PLOs are
thoroughly explained to them and their importance in seeking engineering jobs within and outside
Pakistan. Similarly, towards end of every semester faculty members share the CLO attainment report of
students and advise them of their deficient CLOs. CLO corrective actions are initiated in form of
additional assessments, so student having deficient CLOs can meet their CLO requirements.

Faculty Training for OBE implementation

Initially when the university was implementing OBE system for the first time in 2017-18 our faculty was
regularly trained by regional and national certified OBE trainers. Some of these training workshops were
held at Mehran University (Trainer was Dr Azlan Abdul Aziz were from Universiti Putra Malaysia),
Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, NED University of Engineering and Technology. Few
National OBE certified trainers have also held workshops at KIET to train our faculty members. Most
notable of these was when Dr Jamil (Dean Ripah International University, Islamabad) held OBE workshop
at KIET. Now universities in process of shifting to OBE system request senior KIET faculty members
trained in OBE to train their faculty members and IT department in OBE implementation.

OBE implementation in LMS

The success of OBE system can only be ensured if the feedback loop is affectively implemented. This
requires integration of OBE grading system into a sophisticated Learning Management System. The LMS
can generate complex statistics of the OBE criteria such as CLO/PLO attainment by individual students
and cohort statistics. At KIET we have not relied on 3 rd party OBE LMS systems because these are very
inflexible due to propriety development. At KIET rather we have developed our own OBE based
algorithms and integrated them in our existing LMS system. This enable effective CQI monitoring based
on relevant criteria by both faculty and students of the department.

CQI
A comprehensive CQI policy was formulated and implemented at all levels i.e. PEO, PLO and
CLO. Mechanisms to ensure closure of all the CQI loops were incorporated. Survey forms were
designed and mapped to the relevant PEOs for assessing the attainment of the respective PEOs at
cohort level. In order to ensure quality teaching and learning CQI loop for individual and cohort
level for PLO and CLO attainment were designed and implemented. Thorough analysis is carried
out using the LMS where all the data is stored and managed.
Lab Rubrics
Lab rubrics were designed keep in view all the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of
learning. Detailed lab rubrics for all the labs were designed. All lab manuals contain a complete
table detailing the taxonomy level and respective learning domain.
