concepts and
practicing new Fitness - is the ability to perform physical activities
skills #2 without getting too tired. It has already been proven that
getting into sports and games can make one live longer.

There are four signs of fitness.

1. Endurance – is the ability to continue an activity

without getting too tired. This can be muscular
endurance or cardio (heart) endurance. It increases
blood and heart activity.

(Let the pupils perform some activity which develop

endurance)

2. Flexibility – is the ability of the muscles to stretch

without discomfort or injury.

(Let the pupils perform some activity which develop

flexibility)

12
3. Strength – is the ability of the muscles to exert force.
Muscles get stronger when forced than normal.

(Can you perform the strength activity successfully?)

4. Body Composition – is the weight of a person. One

must have more weigh from lean muscles and bones than fat weight.

Here are some exercises and activities to improve

endurance, flexibility. Strength and body composition.

TARGET GAMES

Target games are games that involve the players in placing

an object near or in a target to be able to get the highest possible
score. The players must propel the object with much accuracy and
control to hit the target. The players should also know how to
protect the object to prevent the other players from scoring. Target
games involve different manipulative skills like throwing, tossing,
rolling, and some motor skills. Bowling, golf, archery, darts, and
tumbang preso are examples of target games.
Target games are classified into two; unopposed target
games and opposed target games. In unopposed target games,
the player performs independently and his or her success depends
on his or her own accuracy. Examples of this type are bowling,
archery, darts, and golf. In opposed target games, the player has
the chance to obstruct the target by blocking, knocking away, or
sending the object out of the playing area in order to win.
Examples of this game type are billiards, croquet, and bocce.
In playing target games, the players need to acquire
some manipulative skills particularly the different game types

28
Skills Involve in Target Games

Underhand Throw
Swing your throwing arm behind you. Step forward with the
foot opposite the hand you are using to throw. Swing your arm
toward your target and make a follow-through.

Sidearm Throw
Your throwing arm should come back sideways, behind your
back. Step forward with the foot opposite the hand you are using to
throw. Swing your arm toward your target and make a follow-
through.

Overhand Throw
Start with your body’s side facing the target. Your throwing
arm extends behind you. Bring your throwing arm way back behind
your head. Step forward with the foot opposite the hand you are
using to throw. Move your upper body from the side to face
forward during the throw and make a follow-through.

skills#1
Skill-related fitness components focus on more
performance of skills than good health.

perform motor tasks accurately and
smoothly. (Tennis, Badminton)
5. BALANCE- is the ability to maintain the
center of mass over a base of support when
moving (dynamic) or stationary (static)
(Gymnastics)
6. REACTION TIME- refers to how quickly
the brain can respond to a stimulus and
initiate a response. (Swimming, Athletics)
