ANSWERS
1. Modal verbs show possibility, intent, ability, or necessity. Because they are a
type of auxiliary verb, they are used together with the main verb of the sentence.
2. They are used company of another verb, to support the action or state of it.
3. As complementary verbs, modal verbs cannot function without
other verbs. the main verbs are always found after the modal verb
and in the base form. not conjugated and they have no tenses.
4. Can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, must, have to, should,
ought to, used to.
5. Can indicates ability or possibility.
6. Could is a modal verb used to express possibility or past ability as well as to
make suggestions and requests. Could is also commonly used in conditional
sentences as the conditional form of "can."
7. The modal verb may be used to ask, grant, or describe permission; to politely
offer to do something for someone; to express the possibility of something
happening or occurring; or to express a wish or desire that something will be the
case in the future.
8. Might is used mostly to express possibility, to make suggestions or requests
and is also used in conditional sentences.
