Learning Competency: Explain how protein is made
using information from DNA. (S10LT-IIIb-34)
Behavioral Learning Objectives:
Explain the process of DNA replication

What I Need to Do

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is an organic chemical that contains genetic information and
instructions for protein synthesis. The process involves replication, transcription, and translation.

Gearing Up
DIRECTION: Find the complimentary pair of the following number in column A with the
number in column B

COLUMN A COLUMN B

1. a.

2. b.

3. c.

4. d.

5. e.

Getting Better
DIRECTION: Identify the complimentary base pair of the DNA sequence by pointing an arrow in
Column A to column B
COLUMN A COLUMN B

Adenine (A) Guanine (G)

Guanine (G) Thymine (T)

Thymine (T) Cytosine (C)

Cytosine (C) Adenine (A)

Guide question:
1. What are the complimentary base pair of the following nitrogenous bases?

___________________________________________________________________________

Gaining Mastery

DNA replication is semi-conservative which means that the two new complimentary daughter
DNA are identical. Each strand in the DNA double helix is used as a template in the synthesis of a new,
complimentary daughter DNA.

DIRECTION: Write the DNA sequence of the two strand and find the complimentary base pair of
the DNA strand. Answer the guide question below.

G A A T C G C T A C

C T T A G C G A T G

| | | | | | | | | |

Guide question:
1. How do you describe the comparison of the two new daughter DNA sequence?
______________________________________________________________________________
2. How do you describe the comparison of the daughter DNA sequence with the parent DNA
sequence?
______________________________________________________________________________
3. What do you understand about semi-conservative replication?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________

What I Need to Remember

 DNA replication is a process by which the parent DNA sequence produces two new identical
daughter DNA.
 The process of DNA replication is semi-conservative.
