CAN PLANT

 Production capacity of 1500 MTPD

 CAN is a mixture of molten Ammonium Nitrate (NH 4NO3) and precipitated lime (CaCO3)
in the ratio 1:0.32.
 Properties of CAN:

Nitrogen 26%
Moisture <0.5%
Coating >95%
Bulk Density 960-1000Kg/m3
Prill size 1.1-3.35mm
Temperature 42⁰C
Crushing Strength >3.5Kgf

 Ammonium Nitrate is explosive in nature. Decomposes at 220⁰C so should be controlled

and stored below 220⁰C. The following decomposition reactions takes place:
5NH4NO3 → 9H2O + 2HNO3 + 4N2 2NH4NO3 →
4H2O + 2NO + N2 NH4NO3 →
2H2O + 4N2 + 1/2O2
 LDAN is used as a mining explosive. High porosity allows for good oil absorption. HDAN
is used as a fertilizer.
