I. Introduction

The song “Santigwar” was released under Sony Music Philippines which was
written by singer-songwriter dwta while the music video was filmed by Elyandre Dagli.
The sound of the song was very modern in my own analyzation but the language used in
the singing was the Bicolano language which already makes the song distinct.
Additionally, the music video shows the amazing view of Albay especially the famous
Bulkang Mayon. The beautiful nature and sceneries in the place were indeed greatly
showcased. But what was most amazing about the song was its theme that was
incorporated from the Bicolano culture specifically the ‘Santigwar”.

II. Body

They intelligently used the concept of Santigwar to create a love song. Santigwar
was known as a healing ritual that is being practiced commonly in provinces mostly in
the Bicol Region. It is said that when a peculiar event has happened and the origin
becomes unexplainable, Santigwar is being conducted in order to know what was its
cause and also cleanse or heals it. Just like how love is being addressed, it is also
unexplainable. Sometimes, we also keep it hidden but confessing makes it clear. So,
basically it was about love that they wish to confess and be clear to the other person just
like how Santigwar makes unexplainable things clear.

In this song that was written, we can really say that knowing about a certain
things historical background is important to enrich a literature such as a song. It helps
us make stories that are relatable because you have foundation and grounds to tell it
and use as reference. Santigwar is one song that showcased Bicol’s amazing culture and
tradition. The writer was indeed intelligent and a good writer. She made a historical or
culture check to the concept of Santigwar and made a lit song that was appreciated by
many.
