I. Introduction
Modulation classification (MC) is the technology which can
identify the modulated signals scheme with unknown signal
modulation parameters or only a little known information [1]. MC
is increasingly important in civilian, commercial and military
applications, examples of these applications: cognitive radio,
spectrum surveillance and management, software defined radio,
source identification, threat assessment, target acquisition,
menace assessment, and electronic warfare scenarios. MC can
be categorized into two sub-systems, the feature extraction (FE)
sub-system, and classifier sub-system [2]. M-ary Quadrature
Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) has been widely used in digital
communication systems. It provides better bandwidth efficiency
and higher data rate than other modulation techniques. M-QAM
is used for wired and wireless transmission, such as Wi-Fi, Wi-
MAX, and GSM [3]. Capturing the distinct features extraction
from raw data represents a challenge and an important task to
ensure the high performance of the MC system especially at high
order M-QAM. In [4], authors proposed an MC approach which

modulated different signals with M-QAM, they were suggested an
approach to use fourth order cumulates. MC of high order M-
QAM signals through Rayleigh fading channel based on Fisher
criterion was proposed in [5]. In [6] deep learning (new machine
learning technology) and signal constellation were proposed for
MC. In [7], MC of ASK, PSK, and QAM were investigated when
unknown frequency slow fading channel and unknown variance
AWGN. Authors in [8] accomplished FE using discrete Fourier
transform, and instantaneous autocorrelation. The proposed
classifier is Naive Bayesian, and Support vector machine in a
hybrid manner to classify 16QAM and other 6 electromagnetic
signals. In [9], deep neural network was proposed for MC to
classify 16QAM, 64QAM with other 3 electromagnetic signals
using statistical features through AWGN channels and fading
channels. This paper proposes a reliable task to classify the M-
QAM signals with high accuracy, using kurtosis and skewness, as
feature extraction and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system as
a classifier [21]-[25].
