I-corner market exchange is Established in 2017 as a software development and market
exchange firm dedicated to facilitate an online exchange of dairy products, by making use of
an integrated system of web and mobile platforms.

The company was founded as a means of finding an alternative solution for the inefficient and
non-transparent ways of how agricultural outputs and inputs are currently being traded in
Ethiopia.  Through its integrated platform, we strive to increase exchange efficiency through
improvement in collection, grading and quality assurance, transportation and delivery of the
products so as contribute for agro-productivity, food security, agro-industrial processing,
while also creating jobs.

We mainly target small holding farmers, traders, processors, and any other key players in the
diary value chain.

I-corner market Exchange is a pioneering up-beet and all-inclusive online agricultural

commodities exchange and market information system designed to alleviate transformation
and development snags within the dairy Industry. The main activity of the company through
the development of software solution is to automate the dairy supply chain, its components
and create market efficiency.

Our platform uses Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unstructured Supplementary Service
Data (USSD), Web, Applications (Mobile apps and Desktop applications) and other digital
solutions to deliver its services.

Our prospective customers are dairy farmers, dairy cooperatives and union’s dairy products
collectors, processors and distributers. Currently we have 6 permanent employees who are
working on development of the intended system solutions. we are a startup company with a
less than one-year experience as a company. However, the senior management of the company
have a background in animal science, agricultural economics, procurement and supply chain
management and computer science and software engineering.

1.      PROJECT INFORMATION

Please write out your full proposal using the prescribed format below by answering at least the lead
questions and points of attention given. Please note that you are limited to the spaces provided per
section, and that no extra pages will be accepted.

1.1   Objectives

-          To automate the dairy collection and distribution system.

-          To enable dairy quality assurance and testing up on collection.

-          To provide other support solutions such as, track heat detection and call for AI
intervention.

The milk marketing system is not well developed giving the large majority of smallholder milk
producers, limited access to the market.  In most of the cases, existing dairy cooperatives are
operating in areas that are accessible to transportation and markets. This means that a
substantial amount of milk does not reach the markets and a number of producers keep on
producing at a subsistence level.

1.2   Innovativeness
How does the project offer new or improved products, services, technology, business models
and/or service delivery models to Ethiopia?

In retrospect to the role and intact potential that technology plays in agricultural transformation, i-
corner market Exchange gives high attention to the integration of technology to agricultural market
system and attempts to address needs one subsector and value chain at a time. The need to improve
the bargaining power of small holding farmers is at the core of this initiative. Our company also
enables farmers for better decision making by improving their access to information, with a provision
of tailor made expert advisory, network and market relation services.

Putting in place a functional quality control system is an important tool to bring about improvement
in the dairy sector. However, the country has no properly operational formal marketing and grading
system that is geared towards matching the quality of milk and milk products to market prices.
Identification of formal markets that demand standard and high quality products will help to
determine market prices based on the quality and thereby enhance commercialization of the
smallholder dairy sector. The approach provides an incentive for farmers to produce milk and milk
products of good quality from the nutritional as well as the consumers’ health perspective. Our intent
of availing a formal market with a price related grading system for milk will be deployed in the
country.

Unlike before, using our system product distribution, traceability, demand and supply matching is
conducted through the use of mobile and web technology. This means the value chain is fully
integrated to give demand information from buyers to sellers. Among other things this will decrease
the amount of postharvest loss which accounts for 30 – 32% of dairy products in sub-Saharan Africa.
The system also introduces new quality control mechanisms regarding adulteration creating a better
value and visibility in the market for the products which use this system.

Our main business model is commission per transaction.

1.3   Budget and own contribution

What is the total budget of proposed project?

How much is own contribution

- In cash – 350,000 birr.

- In-kind- 250,000 birr.

The company will finance its own contribution both in cash and in kind bases.

The in-kind finance includes one-year office rental, office furniture’s, computers, the software and the
system solution the company developed.

The total contribution of the owner budget of project is 600,000 birr.

The total budget requirement of the project will be 1400000 birr.
