C 214 EM: Issues Reforms and Innovations on Education

Course Description:

The course identifies and examines past and existing issues, trends, reforms and innovations in
the Philippine Education System and how these have contributed to national development. It also
discusses how communication and technology are used as tools of innovations in education. It attempts
to motivate learners towards designing their own approach for innovations in their local school setting.

Objectives:

1. Acquire deep understanding of the global trends, issues, reforms, innovations, and
challenges in the context of the Philippine environment.
2. Demonstrate adequate understanding of the principles and theories behind different trends,
issues, reforms, innovations, and challenges and its implications to Philippine education.
3. Improve skills in planning and developing appropriate curriculum guide.
4. Propose and design some curriculum innovations in their respectivearea of education.
5. Assess / Analyze the existing universal curriculum in the light of the different theories and
philosophies of education.
6. Manifest appreciation on the contributions of theories and philosophies in the development
of education curricula.
7. Identify and explain the drivers of change that inform issues, reforms, and innovation in
education.
