a. New Structure steel

Dry Film Thickness (DFT)
Coating System Volume Soild % microns

Zinc Rich Epoxy Primer >45 120

Epoxy Mastic
Aluminum >70 100

Quick Drying Alkyd

Enamel >35 60

Note: The above system can be used on previously coated tanks which are empty and not in use. But it
needs to be ensured that previous coating is completely removed

b. Existing steel structures / Previously coated materials

Dry Film Thickness (DFT)

Coating System Volume Soild % microns

Epoxy Mastic
Aluminum >70 100

Quick Drying Alkyd

Enamel >35 60
Note: Zinc rich epoxy to be used only in the area where previous coating/paint is peeled off after surface
preparation. While the epoxy mastic will be applied once the rough surface is achieved after surface
preparation on existing paint and coating system

a. High Build Epoxy Primer

Supply and application of High Build Epoxy Primer of PSO's approved make on the tank bottom (outer
side), 1st Shell course (inner side), roof plates, roof railing, curb angles, platform etc. as per instructions
of PSO Engineer to a DFT of 100 microns in a min. of two coats. Job should be done according to
applicable codes, standards, as per specifications of Paint manufacturer and as per instructions of PSO
Engineer.

b. High Build Epoxy Finish Coat

Supply and application of High Build Epoxy Finish Coat of PSO's approved make on the tank bottom
(outer side), 1st Shell course (inner side), roof plates, roof railing, curb angles, platform etc. as per
instructions of PSO Engineer to a DFT of 250 microns in min. of two coats. Job should be done according
to applicable codes, standards, as per specifications of Paint manufacturer and as per instructions of
PSO Engineer.

a. Coal Tar Epoxy

Supply and application of three coats of coal tar epoxy each of 125 microns (of PSO's approved make) on
the Bottom Plates (inner side) & structure, underground Pipeline / Piping etc. as per instructions of PSO
engineer. Job should be done according to applicable codes, standards, as per specifications of Paint
manufacturer and as per instructions of PSO Engineer. The job also includes the supply & application of
Epoxy Primer to a DFT of 75 microns of the same manufacturer (compatible to coal tar epoxy) before
applying coal tar epoxy as per instructions of PSO engineer.

4. Tank Chime Plate Coating

The tank chime sealing system consists of the following materials:

1. Single compound, non-thermosetting injection filler, providing sealing of the chime area against
ingress of water
2. Chime area wrap coating, providing corrosion prevention of steel substrates, mechanical
protection of injection filler, and also functioning as a water runoff skirt
3. A UV resistant paint topcoat
 The type of injection filler shall be based on a non-toxic, single compound, non-thermosetting
compound with excellent adhesion-and penetration properties, being fully resistant to water. The
injection Filler must be injected between the steel baseplate and concrete or bitumen asphalt tank
base.

 The Injection filler shall be covered by a non-toxic, cold-applied, prefabricated Chime area wrap
coating, based on a compound containing non-crystalline, low-viscosity, non-crosslinked (fully
amorphous). The Chime area wrap coating offers corrosion prevention and sealing properties,
adhering extremely well to steel and concrete / bitumen asphalt etc. without the use of primer or
preheating the substrates. Due to its liquid nature the Chime area wrap coating compound flows into
all irregularities of the substrate. The compound will not cure and is unable to build up internal stress.
The Chime area wrap coating compound is fully resistant to water and has very low gas-and water
vapour permeability. The Chime area wrap coating has a backing made of top layer that allows for
application of a liquid coating (UV-reflective) immediately after installation.
