3.2. Keys
For operating the Scanner has different kind of keys. There are function keys to
enter, confirm or exit sub menus and direct access keys e.g. number keys.

3.3. Display
For interaction with the scanner a LCD screen with 4 lines and 16 characters per line
is provided. Additionally in the upper line there is space for the system time and a
battery level indicator. With the help of the LCD screen the user is directed to the
menu of choice.
Furthermore acoustic signals are given during certain functions of the Scanner.

Scanner 110
After switching on, the Scanner automatically will enter the SCAN NEXT DET screen
as displayed below.
1 0 : 5 0
X DETS +XXX
The Scanner automatically switches off, if the operating keys are not used within the
defined Scanner`s stand by time. There is no way to switch off the Scanner manually.
3.5. Charging
The Battery status of the scanner is always displayed in the upper line, as soon as
the scanner is switched on. A small battery symbol is used as in indicator for the
battery level. If the battery symbol shows three bars, the battery is fully charged.
Recharge the battery when the indicator shows only one bar.
The batteries are recharged either via an external scanner cradle or the Blast Box.
The main method for charging the Scanner is using the Scanner cradle. The Scanner
cradle is an external charging device which is connected to the mains power for
charging. Docking the scanner to the charging port enables the contact to the
scanners charging ports.
Using the scanner docking station of the Blast Box Series 300 for charging, the Blast
Box Series 300 must be switched on for charging process. During charging the
Scanner it is not possible to charge the Blast Box Series 300 as well, as the Blast
Box Series 300 must always be turned off for charging.

4. Scanning of detonators
Each detonator has an unique identification number (ID), mechanically written to the
chip in the factory once it has successfully completed all its safety and functioning
tests. The ID-number is printed on a tag secured to the lead wires near the
connector. The tag shows the detonators ID number in form of a bar code and as
digits as well as the lead wire length and a date code.
For scanning and assigning the delay time to the detonator, the detonators don`t
need to be connected to the harness wire. All information requested by the scanner
are implemented in the bar code on the tag and can be scanned via the laser
scanner.
To scan the bar code the operator must set up the Scanner to the correct settings,
enter the SCAN NEXT DET mode and scan the bar code on the tag by pressing the
scan button on the key board. It makes no difference whether the bar code is
scanned in normal position as shown above, or up side down.
The Scanner will come up with an audible beep as soon as the scan is successful.
The required delay time for each detonator is entered into the Scanner memory and
written along sides the detonators ID and the sequential position in scanning.

Upon confirmation with the button another single confirming beep is given by the

Any number of Scanners can be used to scan the shot. The Blast Box will collate the
information from all Scanners.

set to a lower setting of about 5 seconds once the user is proficient in
scanning. This will preserve battery power as much as possible.

Global Delay
The GLOBAL DELAY option is used to design a delay time for detonators that have
not been scanned and therefore do not have a specific delay time. During
programming of the detonators by the Blast Box, each detonator receives the specific
delay time assigned to it during the scanning process, as per the detonator list
transferred from the Scanner to the Blast Box. However, at the end of the
programming cycle, the Blast Box sends out a global delay time to all detonators that
have not received a specific delay time. The global delay time is set up in the
Scanner and can either be set up manually or calculated automatically.
After choosing the GLOBAL DELAY option with the help of the or buttons one

programmed to the manually designed global delay time. This is independent of any
other delay time setting of the blast.
