The picture above illustrates my past, real and ideal self. In the first section of the
picture on the left, it explains how I was in the past. In the past, I used to solely base my
actions by the book, figuratively. I was very close-minded and used to just listen to what
I thought was right. I never really listened to other people’s opinions and perspectives,
and this may be the reason why I couldn’t be open to others easily. I was also surrounded
by conflicts within the family. As a result, I was a very quiet and not so sociable person. I
was also very stubborn and would often rebel against what my parents tell me to do. But
I think in comparison to others, I don’t really bring that much of a headache to my parents,
since I was also taught to be serious with school. I achieved a lot and am continuing to
do so. I was also very studious and was not easily distracted with other things in my
academic life. The second section of the picture represents my real self. As seen in the
picture, in contrast to my past self, I have become more outgoing, sociable, and fun. I’ve
started to step out of my comfort zone and have learned to empathize and consider what
other people say. I’ve become a good listener and have learned more about myself and
the things that are happening around me. Lastly, the third section of the picture illustrates
my ideal self. In the future I wish to become a successful CPA Lawyer. I am hopeful that
I will become someone who may be able to achieve a lot of things at a young age. In
hopes to achieve this, I will surely continue to strive to become better and maintain my
determination to do so.
For the philosophical perspective, I believe I can apply Socrates, “Know Thyself”.
This is because I always observe what he implied in my everyday life and in every person,
I meet, even myself. To be able to philosophically understand myself, explore the inner
me and apply my understanding in my daily life, it allows me to make wiser decisions and
empathize with others. In the sociological perspective, I continuously adapt myself
depending on the environment that I am in. I adjust the way I act outside based on
whoever I am with, wherever I am and whatever situation I am in. Third, I think that how I
am being taught about the culture and how I’ve immersed myself with the anthropological
perspective gives me the overview of how things usually go in the community, society,
and country that I am in and guides the actions that I make. Lastly, for the psychological
perspective, for me, it pertains to how I perceive myself, physically, emotionally, and
mentally. It enables me to dive deeper into who I really am and what my purpose in life
is.
Concerning my physical and sexual self, I would describe my self as someone who
is overly conscious and sensitive with my physical appearance. My body type is that of
an ectomorph, although I am not tall. I am quite skinny, and I have a hard time gaining
weight despite eating more than I usually do. However, as I am also conscious of how
others view me, it has affected my eating habits and self-esteem. Although, others assure
me that I am opposite to my negative views of my physical self, I find it hard to believe
so. In terms of my sexual self, how I manage things related to such and how I am
responsible for it speaks volume.
In relation to my material self, I am at the boundary of someone who is simple and
someone who is materialistic. I say this because I don’t really buy extravagant things, but
I do buy some stuff that I don’t really need but it’s something that I really want. As
someone who is fond of music, I stan multiple artists, hence, I buy unnecessary stuff such
as the artists’ merchandise. But I also bear in mind, how I should prioritize first the things
that I really need and should have before satisfying all my wants. For the economic self,
although I am still a student, I have been thinking about how I manage my money in the
long run. I have two savings accounts and in consideration to that, I am very careful with
how I handle the money that I have, I receive and earn. In regard to my spiritual self, I
can say I am a religious person and I incline myself with the religious beliefs and systems
that are being taught in my religion.
As a student, how I manage and care for myself varies in many ways. I relieve the
stress that I am feeling by engaging myself in activities that I am fond with, that makes
me relax and activities that I find comfort in such as dancing, reading books, listening to
music, and eating my favorite food and snacks. I also cope with whatever I am feeling as
a student by hanging out with my friends and playing games that we like. In addition to
that, I also manage and care for myself as a student by making time for my family,
travelling with them, eating out, and talking about everything that is going on with our
lives.
In conclusion, based on my improved understanding of myself, I would live my life
by acting based on my own principles and beliefs with consideration of my core values. I
would also make myself a better person by reminding myself to continue to have an open
mind and to remember that I still have a lot of room for growth and improvement within
myself and for myself. With that being said, I believe I will continue to apply everything I
have learned about philosophy and apply the philosophical perspectives that align with
what I believe in in the present times.
