Question 2 (3.5 points)
Consider the two polynomials:
P(x) = (3x – 2)2 – (2x + 3)2 and Q(x) = (x – 5)2 + (2x – 10)(x + 1) + x2 – 25 .
1. Expand and reduce P(x) as well as Q(x).
2. Factorize P(x) and Q(x).
3. Solve the equation P(x) = 0 and Q(x) = 4x2.

a. Determine the domain of definition of F(x) and then simplify it.
b. Solve the equation F(x) = 2.

Question 3 (2 points)
A truck contains 80 boxes each of mass 8kg and the others are of mass 12kg. Knowing that the total
mass of the truck and its contents is 2720kg. The mass of the truck is 2 tons.
1. Prove that the above given can be translated to the following system of two equations

2. Solve the system and then deduce the number of boxes whose mass is 8kg each and the number
of boxes whose mass is 12kg each.

Question 5 (5 points)
In an orthonormal system of axes x'Ox and y'Oy, consider the two points A(– 2; 1) and B(– 2; 5)
and the straight line (d) of equation y = – x + 2. (The unit of length is cm).
1. Plot the points A and B and then draw the straight line (d).
2. Write the equation of the straight line (AB).
3. Find the coordinates of C the point of intersection between the two straight lines (d) and (D),
where, (D): y = – 2x + 3.
4. In what follows take C(1; 1).
a. Calculate the distances AB, AC and BC.
b. Designate by (C) the circle circumscribed about the triangle ABC.
Find the coordinates of J the center of (C) and then calculate its radius R.

c. Consider the point I (− 2 ; 2). Show that the point I belongs to the circle (C).
5. Let F (a + 1; – 2). Calculate a so that F belongs to the straight line (d).
6. Consider the straight line (dm): y = (m – 2)x – 3. Calculate m so that:
a. (dm) is parallel to (d).
b. (dm) is perpendicular to (d).
