1. P(x) = (3x – 2)2 – (2x + 3)2 = 9𝑥 2 − 12𝑥 + 4 − 4𝑥 2 − 12𝑥 − 9 = 5𝑥 2 − 24𝑥 − 5.
Q(x) = (x – 5)2 + (2x – 10)(x + 1) + x2 – 25 = 𝑥 2 − 10𝑥 + 25 + 2𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 10𝑥 − 10 + 𝑥 2 − 25
= 4𝑥 2 − 18𝑥 − 10
2. P(x) = (3x – 2)2 – (2x + 3)2 = (3𝑥 − 2 − 2𝑥 − 3)(3𝑥 − 2 + 2𝑥 + 3) = (𝑥 − 5)(5𝑥 + 1)
Q(x) = (x – 5)2 + (2x – 10)(x + 1) + x2 – 25 = (𝑥 − 5)2 + 2(𝑥 − 5)(𝑥 + 1) + (𝑥 − 5)(𝑥 + 5)

Question 3
1. Let x be the number of boxes of mass 8kg
Let y be the number of boxes of mass 12 kg. The truck contains 80 boxes, so x + y = 80.
The mass of the truck is 2tons = 2000kg and the total mass of the truck and its contents is 2720kg,
so, the mass of the boxes is 2720 – 2000 = 720kg, so, we get 8𝑥 + 12𝑦 = 720.
𝑥 + 𝑦 = 80
Therefore, the above given can be translated to the following system: { .
8𝑥 + 12𝑦 = 720
𝑥 + 𝑦 = 80 −8𝑥 − 8𝑦 = −640
2. { multiply the first equation by −8, we get : { .
8𝑥 + 12𝑦 = 720 8𝑥 + 12𝑦 = 720
Adding the both equations we get, 4𝑦 = 80, so, 𝑦 = 20, so, 𝑥 = 80 − 𝑦 = 60.
Therefore, the number of boxes with mass 8kg is 60 and the number of boxes with mass 12 kg is
20.

c. IJ = √(𝑦J − 𝑦I ) + (𝑥J − 𝑥I ) = √(3 − 2) + (− 2 + − 2) = √(2) = 2 = R.
Therefore, I belongs to (C).
5. F belongs to (d), so, 𝑦F = −𝑥F + 2, so, −2 = −(𝑎 + 1) + 2, so, −𝑎 − 1 = −4, so, 𝑎 = 3.
6. a. (dm) is parallel to (d), so, slope of (dm) = slope of (d), then, 𝑚 − 2 = −1, so, 𝑚 = 1.
b. (dm) is perpendicular to (d), so, slope of (dm) × slope of (d) = −1, so, (𝑚 − 2) × (−1) = −1,
so, 𝑚 − 2 = 1, then, 𝑚 = 3.
Question 6
1. Figure
2. L is the orthogonal projection of P on (FB). AF̂B = 90° (inscribed angle facing the diameter
[AB]). So, the two straight lines (PL) and (AF) are both perpendicular to (FB), hence (PL) and
(AF) are parallel.
3. Using Pythagoras theorem, AB2 = BF 2 + AF 2 , so, AF 2 = AB2 − BF 2 = 82 − 4.82 = 40.96.
Therefore, AF = √40.96 = 6.4cm. (PL) and (AF) are parallel, using Thales' property
BP BL PL BP PL 3 PL 3 × 6.4
= = ; then; = ; so; = ; so; PL = = 2.4cm.
BA BF AF BA AF 8 6.4 8
4. In triangle ABF cos ABF ̂ = BF , in triangle BPL 𝐊
AB
cos ABF̂ = BL, so , BF = BL, therefore, we get
PB AB PB
BF×BP BF×BP 4.8×3
BL = AB . Numerical value BL = AB = 8 = 1.8cm. 𝐅
FL = BF – BL = 4.8 – 1.8 = 3cm. Triangle PFL is (𝐝)
right at L, using Pythagoras theorem, (𝐂) 𝐃
PF 2 = PL2 + FL2 = 2.42 + 32 = 14.76, so,
𝐋

6. a. We have KF̂B = BF̂A = 90°. 𝐀 𝐁
(BK) is tangent to (C) at B, so, KB ̂ A = 90°, so, 𝐎 𝐏
in triangle KAB, we have BK ̂ F + FÂ B = 90°
In right triangle AFB we have FB ̂ A + FÂ B = 90°.
̂ ̂ 𝐒
So, we get BKF = FBA (have same complement).
Therefore, the two triangles KFB and BFA are similar by two pairs of equal angles.

KFB KF FB KB KF FB
b. Ratio of similitude , BFA : BF = FA = BA, so , BF = FA, therefore, BF 2 = FK × FA.
c. BF 2 = FK × FA, so, 4.82 = FK × 6.4, so, FK = 3.6cm, AK = AF + FK = 6.4 + 3.6 = 10cm.
FB KB 4.8 KB
We have , FA = BA, so, , 6.4 = 8 , therefore, KB = 6cm.
7. (KS) is perpendicular to (AN) and (AB) is perpendicular to (KN). So, [KS] and [AB] are two
altitude segments in the triangle KNA. [KS] and [AB] intersect at P, so, P is the orthocenter of
triangle KNA. (NP) passes through P, so, (NP) holds the third altitude segment, so, (NP) and
(AK) are perpendicular, but (BF) and (AK are perpendicular.
Therefore, he two straight lines (NP) and (FB) are parallel (perpendicular to the same straight
line).
8. The quadrilateral DFLP is a rectangle (three right angles). Therefore, DP = FL = 3cm.
