A CASE ANALYSIS ON E-COMMERCE

MBA 116- Information Technology for Managers
Emeled May Abrio- Salvana, MBA II

E-Commerce of Electronic Commerce is more than just possibly being the most

promising application of Information Technology. It is an invitation to a more competitive

atmosphere in the world of business. As it opens to opportunities to various sectors, it

also welcomes increasing competitors. The challenge of not to be left behind and

sustaining the business is becoming for intensified. Internet based-EC promotes closer

relationships not just with customers but also with their respective suppliers, retailers and

distributors. Nowadays, anything you need to know about a certain product is available

through several websites and online platforms. Yes! This is an opportunity not just to win

the heart of your target market but this is where stronger competition comes. The

availability of all information needed from a rival brand or company is an opportunity too

for the other party. The problem tends to arise in companies which are too complacent

and too focused on getting inches closer to their customers or target market. They don’t

even realize that birth of several E-Commerce platforms ignites hyper competition. One

company will always have brilliant minded workforce who will drive to win over and have

the passion to crush the competition. My analysis shows that every step in getting closer

to customers is a step in inviting more competitors. The power of IT or Information

Technology has paved the way for competitors to see how the others try to pitch their

products and services and what they believe their differentiators are. Your competitors

are now inches closer to you in terms of information. To conclude as you take of the

internet-based EC, crush the competition in E-Commerce before it crushes you. It will

definitely be intense but there is always a winning strategy something a company can

keep and eventually win. Winning strategies will never be searched somewhere- it will
only be man, manifested by a company’s growth in numbers, size and length in

sustainability.

A CASE ANALYSIS ON ICT IN THE PHILIPPINES

According to the given article on March 2017, the US Call Center and Consumer

Protection Act was reintroduced to the US Congress. It is intended to hinder companies

from offshoring supposedly American jobs by incentivizing them to locate in the US

through the creation a public list of bad actors of the companies that ship work

opportunities overseas. The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment said that

US business groups have adamantly opposed the bill, as it would negatively affect their

competitiveness and overall standing in the global trade. Now the challenge is, how will

Philippine BPO Industry strengthen performance and profitability of respective American

companies? This US anti-outsourcing bill should not be feared or foresee as an

immediate shutdown for PH BPO Industry to foster and show that Philippine based

workforce can bring forth International companies to their peak spots. My own analysis

shows that in the PH BPO industry, we should not only grow in numbers but strongly

grow in competitiveness and skill advancement. The educational background is just one

phase of the job would go. To be fluent in English is not even ½ of what should be

mastered, critical thinking and problem analysis should be given focus. This is not

applicable in the customer service sector but to all aspects and all line of business in the

BPO Industry. I highly suggest companies to thoroughly train their workforce and monitor

their growth in terms of process handling and solution making. The Philippine BPO

Industry has to level up its competitiveness in order to at least, prove that we are globally

capable of taking the lead. I therefore conclude that the more IT-ICT expertise we

produce, the more global competitive companies would choose to outsource in the
Philippines. More chances to increase employment rate and more investments to invite. If

this industry is already growing in numbers and gaining a lot of support from the

government then it’s about time to invest more in the workforce.

A CASE ANALYSIS ON INTERNET IN THE PHILIPPINES

Years ago, when technology advancement is still sleeping, everyone just relied on

newspapers, TV broadcast, magazines and the like if they want to know about something

or just basically get an update on what’s happening outside. Years passed by, Filipinos

are now able to grasp everything needed due to internet availability in the country. One of

the biggest chunks of its advantage is better communication means. Increasing

population of OFW’s (Overseas Filipino Workers) made family member to be a part from

their children and loved ones and it is not easy and will never be after all. Moreover,

online social networking is dormant across socio-demographic groups. Purposes such as

online or distance learning information seeking creativity and production are also most

likely the Filipinos purpose of accessing the internet. Filipino families may have the

means to be able to have this privilege but again not all can afford. I the Philippines,

internet usage is not only an opportunity to widen the social network one has but also this

should be a way for Filipinos to be able to do more and become better.

However, the growth of the internet in the Philippines was hindered by many

obstacles including unequal distribution of internet infrastructure throughout the country.

But these obstacles did not altogether halt all the developments. More connection types

were made available to more Filipinos. Increasing bandwidth and a growing number of

Filipino internet users were proof of the continuing development of the internet in the

country.
