Before the first millenium CE, the
mage known as Goratrix was inducted into
House Tremere of the mage Order of
Hermes. He was a particularly talented mage
and was instrumental in founding the prime
chantry of Ceoris, but had a rival for
Tremere’s favoritism in Etrius, whom he
despised with a burning passion.
However, by the end of the first
millenium, it was discovered that the
Hermetic practices the mages had been
using for ages were starting to fail, and with
them, the potions of immortality the mages
had been using to sustain themselves.
Therefore, Tremere ordered his followers to
search for alternate methods of immortality.
It was Goratrix that created the
potion to artificially induce the Embrace
through experimenting on the Tzimisce of
Transylvania. The spirited mage invited
Tremere and six others to participate in the
ritual that led to the Tremere line being
created, as well as the shattering of the
mages’ avatars and the loss of their magics.
Tremere protected Goratrix from the others
and created the Inner Council of Seven, with
Tremere leading them all as the Tzimisce
made war on the usurpers.
Divided
The newly created Cainites began to
subtly Embrace the rest of the House, giving
them the choice between death or unlife.
They had to quickly bolster their numbers
and learn their Disciplines quickly, as the
Tzimisce were threatening to extinguish
them within the first century of their
existence.
It was Goratrix, along with the
famous, or infamous depending on who’s
asked, Virstania who discovered the
thaumaturgical ritual to create the Gargoyle
bloodline. The Tremere were becoming a
force to be reckoned with among the
Cainites, though they were still second-class
citizens. Through consulting with lore and
spirits, Tremere sought to steal true Clan
status by diablerizing Saulot, the Salubri
Antediluvian, and becoming a 3rd
Generation Cainite.
Tremere did indeed diablerize
Saulot, and the Clan launched a massive
propaganda campaign, calling the Salubri
soul-eaters and justifying the diablerie of the
cyclopes. Goratrix himself ascended to the
4th Generation, becoming ever more
powerful and ambitious. Tremere sunk into
torpor, surfacing only at rare intervals, and
the Council was left to guide the Clan.
Some centuries, an attempt to gain
artifacts from the Knights Templar failed,
and Goratrix fled to the Sabbat rather than
face punishment from Tremere and the
Council, creating House Goratrix.
However, much of House Goratrix
was destroyed in 1998, though Goratrix
himself seems to have survived, and is Generation: 4th
leading his recovering House in these nights.
