Professional Disposition

reflection

I believe all students should be treated fairly and with respect regardless of their beliefs. Children learn

from the examples they see. If I have favoritism means to give undue honor to a person or to
show favor to him/her in a matter for which he/she does not have the required abilities and
potentials. Favoritism leads to the promotion of some incompetent people who
are, then, employed in various walks of life (Employee Favoritism, 2006)
or partiality and treat one student differently from one another, I may damage the child that I am
helping and as a result that student may become discouraged

by what they see. I believe that all children deserve to feel valued and appreciated. When serving us

children, I must be able to listen to what they say without forming an opinion about them or judging

what they believe. If I do not believe the same as them, I must give them the opportunity for their voices

to be heard. I must realize that each student is unique, and each student brings their own set of beliefs

with them. As a teacher I think that students should receive equal treatment in the classroom and each

of them should receive the same instructions. I think that being a teacher requires me to look within

myself and make sure that I am not demonstrating any biases between students. I must also respect

each individual student and allow them to be the best they can be when interacting with them.

As I assess myself, I ask myself if what I say in my disposition is truly what I believe. I not only ask that,

but I look inwardly within myself and can honestly say that that is who I am. Throughout this journey I

realize the progress and growth I have obtained since entering the program. For instance, when I

started, I questioned why I chose this career but as I took various classes it all made sense to me

because I was loving what I was learning about what it took to become an effective educator. I also had

the opportunity to write numerous essays about all that educators needed to effectively teach student

from different diverse backgrounds.

When thinking about ethics and professional dispositions thought about how our disposition should

reflect the various ethics we possess. The ethics should support how we value who we are and what we

stand for. It should support who we say we and why we are doing what we do. In the future I will

incorporate what I have learned from my mentor and professors into my teaching.
