BACKGROUND
Social media was originally created as a way to connect society. By posting videos, photos
and thoughts onto our social media platforms, we share our lives with our acquaintances.
However, nowadays some learners stare and scroll on their phones for hours just to compare
their bodies to those of models and influencers thus losing their concentration from studying
and get busy with browsing on social media.

The CALA
This CALA has 2 parts, namely part A and B; you are advised to respond to both of them.

Part A (Research)
• Research on the different types of social media being used nowadays. (in point form)

• From the different types above, identify TWO most commonly used social media
platforms by teenagers and write down few notes on why teenagers like them. (in point
form) (10)

Part B (Evidence)
• Write down the effects to learners of the TWO social media platforms identified in Part
A. (10)
• Suggest solutions to end the overuse of the TWO social media platforms by teenagers
so that they concentrate on schoolwork. (15)

You will be assessed on your research on the effects (positive and negative) and the realistic
solutions to the negative effects of use of social media.
