Background

In recent years, there have natural disasters affecting agricultural activities at schools, in the
community and Zimbabwe at large such as floods, cyclones, lightning strikes and heat waves.
As a result, this has resulted in destruction of crops and livestock, droughts and drowning of
animals. This subsequently leads to poor crop yields, hunger for animals, and reduced animal
productivity.

The CALA

The CALA has two separate parts, Part A and B. You need to complete both parts.

Part A- 20 marks

- Research on the causes of climate change.


- Research on the effects of climate change on agricultural productivity
- Research on the ways of preventing climate change.
- In your research include interviews, record notes, use ICT tools, take pictures and
make recordings of your findings on the ways of managing the effects of climate
change in Zimbabwe.
Part B- 30 marks

- Using the information in Part A, make a model or an illustration of a preventative


measure on one of the disasters or effects that you have identified.
- Write notes or explain orally about your model or illustration.

How you will be assessed

- To assess your presentation, your facilitator will consider your research materials,
explanations about your model or illustration as well as your model/illustration that
you have made.
- Achievement standards specific to this CALA will be provided so that you are aware
of the assessment criteria.

CALA Tips

- As you carry out your research, remember to write notes, use ICT tools or make
recordings.
- You can use different materials like picture collages, cardboard boxes, manila and
glue.
- You can read your notes.

- record information and make notes on the responses given. (5)

- make a model or an illustration of a preventative measure on one of the effects you have identified. (20)

- write notes or explain about your model. (5)


- submit your model, illustration and notes for assessment. (5)

- The CALA will be assessed out of 50.

- your write up or oral explanation.
- marks will be given for your answers.

CALA Tips

In your research questions consider:
