I. Course Overview:

History is an interdisciplinary subject which provides a macrocosm of human life on

earth. By helping us know, learn, and process information about the politics, society,
culture, science, religion, art and aesthetic sense of people and societies far removed
from ours in time and space, the subject provides us a glimpse of the
interconnectedness of the past to the present in overt and covert ways.
Temporally, this paper deals broadly with events falling between the 14th - 20th
centuries. Spatially, we focus our attention on North America (American war of
independence) and Europe (French revolution, Industrial revolution, Renaissance in
Europe and colonial expansion strategies emerging from Europe) on the one hand, and
the Indian subcontinent on the other. The knowledge and critical analyses of these
historical contexts equips us to understand the present. The people, the institutions and
the decision-making processes we see around have a long history of evolving till they
acquired their present shape. Even at an individual level, a successful and grounded
manager/business person in any public or private organization or a self-employed
individual running his/her own business enterprise/start-up will find it imperative to be
historically literate, learn the art of analysing and contemporising historical facts and
evidence and craft it into decision making. In a nutshell, this course will help students
analyse and interpret the past events, contemporise them with the present socio-
political and economic environment to enable them to make appropriate decisions in
general and specific to organisation in particular.
II. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):
At the end of the course, the students shall be able to:
1. Interpret the impact of renaissance, political and industrial revolution, and
colonization in shaping the modern world
2. Explain the state polity, economy, society and culture during the company Raj
3. Compare the different perspectives of nationalism during the British Raj and
