LET US STUDY

Skin needs care in order to be healthy, smooth and moisturized. One of the
negative effects on our skin is stress. Can you think of factors that could affect our
skin? What do you usually do, if you notice that you have dry skin and dead skin
cells? There are a lot of things that comes to our mind in order to remove dry skin
and dead skin cells, one of those is body scrub.

BODY SCRUB
It is a polish treatment to the body which exfoliates the skin, leaving it feeling
fresh, smooth, moisturized and soft. A body scrub is done with an abrasive material
—usually sea salt or sugar—mixed with some kind of massage oil and an aromatic
like essential oils.

5
A body scrub is not technically a massage because body treatments can be
performed by estheticians / Beautician who are only licensed or highly skilled to
work on skin, not the underlying muscle tissue (unless they are giving massage to
the face, neck, and shoulders.) https://www.tripsavvy.com/what-is-a-body-scrub-

In Europe, Egypt and Asia body scrubs have been part of the female beauty
ritual for thousands of years. In ancient Egyptian times, both men and women used
scrubs with perfumed oils to keep their skin supple and free of wrinkles from the dry
desert heat. Today this weekly ritual continues in many countries around the world.
Body scrubs continue to be used for a myriad of beauty and health benefits.

How to Maintain Healthy, Youthful and Glowing skin?

Our skin is constantly faced with daily irritants. From build-up of dead skin
cells, oil residue, changes to the weather, make-up and dirt build-up and even stress,
there are many factors working against our skin’s natural radiance.

7 Tips on how to Maintain Healthy, youthful and glowing skin

By: Rebecca Dancer/Mayo clinic staff

1. Protect your skin from the sun

One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from
the
sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin
problems.
a. Use sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least
15 and above before going out.
b. Seek shade. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's
rays are strongest.
c. Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved
shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats.

6
2. Don't smoke

Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking
also

damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and

elasticity.

3. Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits,
vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.
4. Manage stress

Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne
breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin and a
healthy state of mind take steps to manage your stress.
5. Exfoliate the skin
Light exfoliation daily. Removing the outer layer of dead skin cells will help
smooth skin texture, increase the absorption rate of your skin care products,
and brighten up your complexion.
6. Apply skin care products right after bathing.

Take to your skin care routine immediately after hopping out of the shower.
"Applying a moisturizer daily on face and body after washing replenishes and
seals in moisture.
7. Stay Hydrated
Drinking enough water is essential for overall skin health. Staying adequately
hydrated keeps your skin moisturized, healthy, and, you guessed it, glowing.

Lesson Client’s Relation, Code of Ethics

This lesson deals on how to build good relationship to the client
through good communication skills.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

1. Determine the communication skills of an operator/Beautician.

2. Show client relation through good communication skills.

Fill in the balloon to create a dialogue in the comic strip below using good
communication skills. Use the guide phrase/s given in each frame.
Let us study

Building customer relationships is one of the key customer/client

retention strategies that you can use to improve *footfall in a salon business.
Maintaining a courteous relationship with every client means a lot. Especially in a

20
beauty and wellness industry. (https://www.franchiseindia.com/wellness/Easy-steps-
tomaintain-customer-relationship-in-salon-business.)

Client care is essential if you want to become a successful

hairdresser, therapist or beautician, thus, proper client care depends on good
communication. It is vital that you learn to communicate well with your clients from
the moment they enter the salon until they leave. If you establish a good rapport,
they will feel comfortable with their choice of stylist and you will have clients who feel
relaxed and confident. You must be able to:
• put your client at ease – tell them what you plan to do before you start
cutting and explain what you are doing as you
work;
• understand what the client wants – communication is about listening as
well as talking; and
• make sure that the client understands what you are recommending for
them.

Importance of Good Communication Skills

Developing your communication skills can help all aspects of your life,
from your professional life to social gatherings and everything in between. The ability
to communicate information accurately, clearly and as intended, is a vital life skill and
something that should not be overlooked.

Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one

place to another, whether this be vocally (using voice), written (using printed or
digital media such as books, magazines, websites or emails), visually (using logos,
maps, charts or graphs) or non-verbally (using body language, gestures and the tone
and pitch of voice). How well this information can be transmitted and received is a
measure of how good our communication skills are.

Good communication builds rapport and understanding with the

speaker and allows them to freely express their views. It motivates them to say more
and ask questions suitably. However, Poor communication can make it difficult for
an individual to succeed in a business setting, where strong writing and speaking

21
skills are crucial to completing work accurately and efficiently. When an employee on
a project team gives confusing or incomplete instructions to co-workers, the end
result may be weak in quality.

Code of Ethics

Ethics is a system of moral principles. It is derived from the Greek word

ethos which mean custom, habit, character or disposition. They affect people in
making decisions and lead their lives. In order for you to have a successful life
personally and in business you will need to follow ethical principles, like these:

 Reliable  Good communication  No drama

 Organized  Enthusiastic  Eager
 Friendly  Caring  Trustworthy
 Artistic  Well- rounded  Team Player
