Review of Related Literature


(DepEd, 2013) The goal of the K - 12 Basic Education Program is to create a functional basic education system that will produce productive
and responsible citizens equipped with the essential competencies and skills for both life long learning and employment. 

(Official Gazette, 2013) Academic Track is designed for SHS learners who intend to pursue higher education or careers
along four specific strands: 1) Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand; 2) Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics(STEM) Strand; 3) Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand; and 4) General Academic (GA) Strand.

(Rosalia, 2016) The HUMSS strand revolves around improving a student’s reading, writing, and speaking skills. people
who choose this strand are aspiring to become members of the society who will be dealing with a lot of people. (e.g. teacher,
psychologist, lawyer, etc.). This strand practices analytical skills in order to become a successful student than employee, help us in opening up
debates that helps us imagine alternative futures, improves oral and written communication skills, develops global perspective by studying
cultures throughout the world, and it deepens understanding and appreciation of other's cultures and point of views.

Sampling procedure

The researchers requested permission from the school Director of saint Francis School of La Libertad to distribute questionnaires
to the selected senior high students.

Data Gathering Instrument

The instrument used to gather data was the questionnaires. It was distributed and received personally by the researchers from
the respondents to maintain reliability of the results.
