M4 - CASE ANALYSIS

1) A.

Acting as a public health official, I am now given the hard decision of how to handle
an epidemic that threatens the lives of 600 individuals. There are only two options and
what must be prioritized is saving the most lives as much as possible while keeping in
mind that nothing is certain about the situation. Option A, allows me to save 200 lives
with 100 percent certainty, while Option B, offers a chance to save 600 lives but with a
slim chance of success. These options have their consequences but I will be choosing
Option B.

The main objective is to minimize the casualty in treating the patients. Each life is
important and as a public health official, I must do everything in my power to save these
lives and Option B allows me to save the greatest number of people. This option helps
me view things positively even in the current situation. Although it may not be certain but
with determination it is possible to do so. Much better than saving only 200 people and
letting the remaining lose their precious lives.

In choosing between Option A and Option B is tough. But I believe Option B, with its
1/3 chance of saving everyone, is the best choice. By aiming to save all 600 lives and
staying hopeful and united, we prioritize saving as many people as possible. In crises,
hope and teamwork are crucial for creating a better future where everyone can thrive.

Dan is the head of the student council, and his job is to make sure everyone,
including teachers and students, is involved in discussions. But sometimes, what he
does can be a little bit good and a little bit not so good

Dan wants to make sure both teachers and students feel included when they talk
about things. This is good because it's important that everyone's ideas are heard. But if
Dan only picks topics that he knows everyone will like, it might not be fair. People might
think he's trying to control what they talk about. That's not good because conversations
should be honest and not controlled. Dan needs to find a balance. He should pick topics
that everyone cares about, but not just to make them happy. The topics should be
important to everyone, even if they're not easy. This way, conversations will be more
meaningful.
Dan's job isn't always easy. He needs to think about what everyone needs while also
making sure conversations are honest and important. This is the way for Dan to keep
what is morally good and how to properly act as a student council head.

C.

Sometimes, we face tough decisions that are hard to make. Instead of flipping a
switch, the only way to save five people from an oncoming train is by pushing a 300-
pound man onto the tracks. Lives are at risk and the proposed solution is sacrificing one
which is not the best solution.

No matter where we go life is valued and is sometimes considered sacred as it is

something that has inherent value. As such it must be taken care of properly so as to
prolong our lives and make it meaningful. The provided solution for the given problem is
not acceptable as it violates the principle of giving importance to life whether it is ours or
our fellow men. We can’t justify that we sacrificed a life to save more that is still wrong
because it’s the same as killing someone.

So it may not be mentioned but we can have other solutions and one of those just
moving out of the way in order to avoid the incoming train. Finding out the best solution
is a must in any given situation.

2)

One time, as I was browsing through Facebook, I saw a post from an official
page of Baguio (Baguio City Information Office) that there was a recent incident at the
Athletic Bowl located near Burnham Park. It was reported that a dead body was found
and so the authorities are now investigating what happened.

It was a shocking report as the body was found in a public place especially that it
was even near a park where people enjoy their leisure time. The first thought that came
to mind was what could’ve done by the victim that they would do such a thing to him
and what we’re the perpetrators thinking while doing the crime. This is not something
that I should know but it is still scary to think that such an incident happened, although it
may not be near our place but it’s in the same region as I am so it is still near.

The report raised my concern regarding the safety of my family, friends, those
who I know, and me. Being vigilant at all times may be helpful because dangers lurk
everywhere so being cautious is a must wherever we may be.
