Materials
* The doll is ~20cm in height using the exact same materials listed.
* Not all yarns (even those with the same weight) is exactly the same. In view of the fact that
certain brands/materials can be difficult to obtain, I have listed suggested alternatives, and also
provided 2 patterns with different colour schemes using slightly different weighted threads for
the kimono/ornaments, Please read through carefully before you begin the project.
* When using alternative/substitute materials, make sure you wrap the kimono around the doll as
you go, to see if any minor adjustment is required.

Crochet Hooks:1.00mm, 1.25mm, 1.50mm, 1.75mm, 2.00mm

Others:Sewing needle, embroidery thread, scissors, blush/small brush, craft glue (UHU The all
purpose adhesive), polyester filling, 9mm safety eyes

***As you can see, the


metallic thread is almost
identical in thickness when
compared to the size 10
cotton crochet thread,
however since it is very
stiff, a larger crochet
hook is required.

Now we begin to work on the doll’s neck. Ensure the supportive wire has been inserted as you
crochet around it.

- Cut the supportive wire, Sew the ends to close the piece,
- The head of the doll is detachable to make it easier to put on and remove the garments. This
way, you can also change the head position for different poses.

Part 2A: Hair

See Diagram : Begin to crochet the “strands” of hair. Start with Ch, turn, and continue
according to instructions. At the end, slip stitch into the BLO of the next stitch in row 3.

Part 2B: Hair bun

BLO Braids: S into next BLO stitch after completion of each braid

- Now cut 16 pieces of yarn, 40cm in length.


- Use the crochet hook to pull through 4 strands into each stitch, tie to secure (see diagram).
- Tie the ends together, twist and wrap around the base. Sew to shape and secure.
Part 3A: Facial features
- Insert 9mm safety eyes. There should be 8 stitches between the 2 eyes (see diagram
for approximate spacing/positioning)
- Use embroidery thread to sew on facial features (eyebrows, nose etc), and apply blush
onto cheeks with a small brush. See diagram for the approximate positioning of the
eyes, brows, nose, blush etc.
Part 3B: Hairpiece Assembly
Use bobby pins to position the hairpiece., and attach with glue.
Begin with the BLO braids :
1. Centre the hair piece first. See diagram.
2. Leave the side bangs (braids 11-12, 19-20) for now, do not secure with glue
3. Secure the front fringe (BLO braids 13-18)
4. Secure the rear braids (BLO braids 1-10). Leave small gaps in between.

Centre of head

Continue to adhere the FLO braids: FLO braids 2-9 would fill the gaps at the back.
Sew the side bun on 1 side.
Finally, adhere the side bangs (BLO braids 11-12, 19-20, & FLO braids 1+10)
