Guidelines on Apostille for Freshman

(applies to all attenders and graduates of Foreign/International Schools)

1. Apostille Agreement Notice

Apostille Agreement became effective on July 14, 2007. Therefore, the Ministry of
Education Science & Technology have sent following notices to the universities in
Korea.

A. Before matriculation, students who have attended or graduated from school(s) in


foreign countries must submit high school transcript(s) and certificate of high school
graduation with:
1) Apostille stamps on the documents in case the student has attended or graduated from
school(s) in a country that is a member of the Hague Convention (Convention
Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents); or
(2) Korean Consulate Confirmation; or
(3) China Qualifications Verification of China Academic Degrees and Graduate
Education Development Center when the student has attended or graduated
from school(s) in People’s Republic of China.

※ Usually, the governmental/public institution responsible for Apostille is designated


by the country’s government. (eg. in case of Korea, the responsible institution would
be Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade.)

2. Guidelines to legalizing the documents

A. Issuing Institution:
1) Apostille: Must be issued by the governmental/public institution of the country in
which the school is located (eg. in Korea: Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade).
[Please inquire further to the Korean Consulate within the country in which your
school is located, or Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (82-2-2100-7500)]
2) Consulate Confirmation: Please visit the embassy or consulate within the country in
which your school is located.
3) China Qualifications Verification: Please inquire further to China Academic Degrees
and Graduate Education Development Center in People’s Republic of China.

B. In case you only have Certificate of Expected Graduation, you must graduate and
then receive Apostille or Korean Consulate Confirmation or China Qualifications
Verification on the Certificate of High School Graduation and submit the document
before matriculation at Yonsei University (Spring Semester: late February; Fall
Semester: late August).
