EOT GENERAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE WHICH I FOLLOW

➢ Before inspection crane should be isolated from power source, it should be lockout and tagout
and barricaded.
➢ I am doing inspection as per Standard BS EN 7121-2-7: 2012, /SP 2275 and Astron Inspection
Procedure T3-TEP-LEP-202
➢ First, I prefer to check previous report and its highlighted items which need to give more care,
maintenance report and daily checklist. If any thing highlighted on previous report, then I will
give more focus on highlighted comment form previous report.
➢ I will note down its manufacturer details along with serial number and all other information.
➢ I will check for visual examination against its defect especially in the part like
1. End carriage structure
2. Long travel drive, wheels, axles, bearings, brake
3. Bridge girder
4. Crab structure
5. Cross travel drive, wheel, axles, bearing and brake.
6. Cross travel rails
7. Hoist mechanism including motor, brake, gearbox, drum, and bearings.
8. Wire rope and its termination and anchorages, rope guide and pressure arm, sheaves,
sheaves pin, bottom block of hook.
9. Check for electric control panel
10. Check for operator cabin and sitting if applicable.
11. Limit switches such as travel limit switch and hoist limit switches.
12. Platform and ladders if applicable
13. Supporting structure.
14. Gantry beam, rail, and fixings.
15. End stops and buffers
16. Down shop conductor system (festoon cable, Shrouded conductor system, cable reeling
drum etc.)
➢ Once visual examination done, I will focus on following Assessment criteria.
1. Alignment (span difference, level difference, line deviation and track inclination)
2. Corrosion
3. Crack
4. Distortion
5. Damage
6. Functionality
7. Leakage
8. Lubrication
9. Marking
10. Mode of operation
11. Rope fit
12. Rope reeving
13. Rope specification
14. Rope condition
15. Obstruction
16. Security, seizure
EOT GENERAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE WHICH I FOLLOW

17. Wear and tidiness

➢ Once visual examination performed to ensure that it can do functional test, it should be tested
functionally without load to all direction to ensure that all limit switch, contractor, relays, brake
and other components functions correctly. Check for any sound that may indicate defects, and
observing any malfunctions
➢ Once functional test done it should be load tested which is equal to SWL. while doing load
testing with swl Following point must be noted.
1. Lift load slowly around 200 mm from ground to ensure that gear on motor box
experiences load at slow speed and lower load until 100 to 200 mm from ground.
2. Travel load in rectangular direction to the full length of crane so that crane can
experience all motion which is equal to SWL.
3. Keep load on center of span of crane and hold for 10 min and check for deflection,
condition of brake before and after load test. Note that maximum deflection should not
be more than 1/750th of span. Advise to NDT if needed.
4. Again, rehoist load to ensure hoist is capable of rehoist and lower load again.
➢ Overload Test: Overload test performed to ensure that crane is structurally sound. Following
step should follow for overload test.
1. Lift load 125% of SWL from ground level until gear on motor experiences overload.
2. Lower load 100 to 200 mm from ground and hold for 10 min.
3. Rehoist load after 10 min to ensure that hoist has capability to rehoist.
4. Travel load in full length of structure.
5. Test will be successful if no indication of crack, deformation, any damage that affects
function and safety of crane.
➢ On completion of test further through examination of supporting structure should be carried
out.
