CHAP 1 – FORMATTING & EDITING


I. FORMATTING:-
• Primary storage device in our computer is Hard Disk, we need to format it
before using.
• Formatting involves testing of disks & writing new file systems on to the disks.
• It creates an empty space for storing files in disks.
• When computer is affected by viruses, formatting the system & reinstalling OS
is the only option to work it again properly as it erases everything on the drive.
• Before formatting it is necessary to take a backup of data .
• Formatting means configuration of drives with a file system .

STEPS FOR FORMATTING:-

1. Go to Start menu, right click – My computer.


2. Choose Manage → Disk Management.
3. A new drive will be listed ‘Unallocated’ (right side) & ‘Not initialized ‘ (left
side).
4. Right click →Not initialized -→ click Intialize disk.
5. Choose partition style ( MBR & GPT) →OK
6. Right click → Unallocated → choose New Simple Volume. -→ click Next.
7. Specify → size, assign drive letter, select file system→ NTFS
8. Perform Quick Format.
9. Click Finish.

II. DISK MANAGEMENT:

Disk Management → allows to manage drives( hard drive disk), assigning drive
letters, partitioning , formatting.

STEPS FOR DISK DEFRAGMENTATION:-


1. Cick on Start menu -→ Control Pannel
2. Open System and security.
3. Click Defragment your hard drive.
4. Select the drive (eg, C Drive)
5. Click Analyze Disk.
6. (Setting defragment schedule) Click Configure schedule.-→ day menu
7. Set day (eg Monday)
8. Click OK → Close.
III. MALWARE:-
1. Class of software that has malafide intentions.
2. Well thought, well designed & meticulously engineered to cause damage.
3. Two categories :-
a. Infectious Malware
b. Concealment Malware

IV. STEPS TO REMOVE MALWARE:-
1. Enter Safe Mode
2. Disconnect the internet
3. Now delete temporary files
4. Run the scanner.

cause damage to the victim computer system.

Ans: The steps to remove malware are as follows:-

• Enter Safe Mode and disconnect the Internet .


• Now delete temporary files. Deletion of temporary files speeds up the scanning
process.
• Run the scanner.
