1. Why is there a need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal?

It is important to know Rizal’s life and works because he is not just a “somebody,” he is
our national hero and the metaphor of genuine love for our country. Nationalism is an inborn
duty, and it is necessary to promote the growth of Filipino youth in all aspects of citizenship. By
recognizing and appreciating his works and service towards our country, it may ignite a fire of
nationalism within us, and serve as an eye opener for some things that we are blinded of. This
course will also motivate the Filipino youth to rise up to Rizal’s ideals of freedom and liberty, and
apply these principles in and teachings in the light of contemporary societal issues.
