Incidentally, most fire outbreaks are caused by human errors of omission or commission. therefore the levelof these errors are reduced to the barest minimum, {destruction of lives and property arising from fire outbreaks and related emergencies will be under control. ‘The National Fire Code is therefore to address conditions hazardous (olife and property arising from fire outbreak, unsafe building construciion and Occupancy of buildings, hazardous materials storage, transportation and other emergencies. (5) __Diills shall include suitable procedures to make sure that all persons in the building or persons subjectto the drils actualy participated. (6) _Diilsshall be held at unexpected times and under varying conditions to stimulate the unu conditions obtained in case offre, (7) Allthe occupants of ulcings shall be schooled and drilled inthe duties they are to perform: case offre, panic, orother emergency in order tobe of greatest service in effecting orderly e fromthe buildings. (8) Onevacuation, all the occupants shall assemble at predetermined locations where roll calls shall be taken, 46 130, 0} PART IX ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION IN BUILDING AND ATTENDANT FIRE HAZARDS, Power Supply ‘The power supply toa fre protection instalation shall be from a maintained power supply such son Uninterupted Power Supply System which shall have an alternative power supply that can be started within a meximum of 60seconds after public power supply may have been removed since fie detection systems provide signals that may trigger of alarms for quick intervention offre fighters, quick evacuation and automatic actuation of automatic fre fighting mechanism. (2) The power back up system shall be monitored to be ready at all times for recharging the battery sources that take ove from public power supply inthe UPS system, (3) Where a direct batery source is the supply power ofthe fire system, an alternative power generation shall be used to charge the battery before itis allowed to go flat in the event of unusually long delay of pubic power supply returning tothe system andin the alternative, the {otal battery power requirerients ofthe fe protection shal be the product in Ampere Hour of, ‘current consumption (Amps) multiplied by the expected period Hours) of waiting for the main public powersupply,-forexamplo, 72 hoursor3 days, (4) Public power supply to all fre protection systems shall be maintainable, and shall have redundancy built into the design to ensure availablity of power for monitoring and sensing for every 24 hours, Automaticfire alarm systems 430. Automatic fire alarm systems (1) Where required by this Code, the plans and specifications for the automatic fire alarm system. shall show location and number ofthe sensing ations and signals with specications ofthe type, constaiction and aparatian af tha systam including ail automatic datacton devicas and installation ofall he equipment shallbe in accordance withthe provisions therein. (2) Aulomaticfire detection system shall be provided as follows - (@) Smoke sensitive detectors (ionized smoke detectors) for rooms where there is danger of explosion (bd) Rate of temperature rise detectors, where rapid temperature is to be expected or ‘where more sensitve detectors are unstable such as Kitchens, Restaurants or oven rooms where danger of explosion could be expected; (©) __Infta-ted detectors for indoor applications where operating conditions are severe, such as where carbonaceous materials such as wood, plastic, alcohol, petroleum products may cause fre; (4) Optical smoke detectors which reactto the visible mainly ight coloured smoke which ‘occurs usually at iitial stages of slow smouldering fires, in rooms encompassing electrical equipment and materials; 47 131. (©) Explosion proof or fame proof detectors in explosion and or fre hazard area such 25 ‘chemical plant; ( Air duct detector unit for monitoring ventilation and air conditioning system for smoke: andre aerosols; (@) Dual rate of rise or maximum temperature detectors for monitoring of road tunnels and rooms where normal heat detectors cannot be used due to aggressive chemical ‘atmospheres, dust accumulation or high humidity (>) Gas detector for monitoring dancerous level of fammables, such asin Kitchens using gas or cooking and gaseous molecules laden n an enclosed space; and (Molecule detector for sensing visible and invisible products uf vombustion in each dwelling unit of residential or mutifamily buildings. (3) Eachdetector shall provide an alarm suitable to wamn the occupants within the individual dweling ‘units and the ight application of automatic detectors shall be related tothe feload.
