Ariel: Part of Your World

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?

Wouldn't you think my collection is complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?

Look at this trove, treasures untold

How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Looking around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything

I've got gadgets and gizmos a plenty

I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty!
But who cares? No big deal,
I want more

I wanna be where the people are

I wanna see, wanna see them dancing

Walking around on those

What do you call 'em? Oh, feet

Flipping your fins you don't get too far

Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a
What's that word again?
Street

Up where they walk, up where they run

Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wandering free
Wish I could be, part of that world

What would I give if I could live

Out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day
Warm on the sand?

Bet'cha on land, they understand

That they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women, sick of swimming
Ready to stand

I'm ready to know what the people know

Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it - what's the word?
Burn?

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love, love to explore that shore up above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world

Ariel: Part of Your World

Transitivity Analysis

The song "Part of Your World" is a Disney animated feature film song
composed by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken for the film The
Little Mermaid (1989).

The "Part of Your World," is a power ballad performed by American actress

and singer Jodi Benson as Ariel, a mermaid princess, is a power ballad in which the
main character expresses her strong desire to become human; its lyrics use
placeholder names in place of several human-related terms that would be unfamiliar
to a mermaid. "Part of Your World," the film's theme song, is performed by Ariel after
she saves Eric, a human prince with whom she has fallen in love, from drowning.

Ariel loved exploring her underwater home with her friend flounder but
dreamed of living on land as a human. The official video of the Disney song Part of
Your world described how she wanted to be part of the human world.
Material Process

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?

Wouldn't you think my collection is complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?

Look at this trove, treasures untold

How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Looking around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything

The first and third stanzas describe the material process of the song in
which Ariel express the notion that some material she found underwater does
something related to the world of human. The lines explain how the things work,
appearance, and memories within the materials such as trove (full of delightful
things), treasures (like gold, gems, pearls, valuable objects), and “this stuff” is
referring to a “fork” that she found and added to her collections which she believed
that she got all everything at first. She has a collection of gadgets but she still
wants more (in the human world). The material process here is the goal of Ariel and
the Ariel itself because of her collection; she can relate and connects to the world.

Mental Process

I wanna be where the people are

I wanna see, wanna see them dancing

Walking around on those

What do you call 'em? Oh, feet

These four (4) lines depict the mental process of the song. Ariel wants to be
part of the people (humans above the sea level). She wants to see them dancing
using their legs and feet and walking around the places. It shows affection, the
process of liking and perception that she wanted to see. The lines above means
that she really wanted to have legs and feet.
Behavioral Process

Flipping your fins you don't get too far

Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a
What's that word again?
Street

Up where they walk, up where they run

Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wandering free
Wish I could be, part of that world

In these stanzas, the behavioral process can be seen through the behaver
which is identified as the mermaid (Ariel). It explain how Ariel behave when
she’s thinking, acting, smiling, reading, and dreaming that she could become a
part of the world (human world). This is the process where Ariel interact with the
materials (her collections), her mental (mind) which is dreaming her goals, and
participant (behaver) who shows behavioral actions.

Verbal Process

What would I give if I could live

Out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day
Warm on the sand?

The verbal process has four participants. In the song, we can see the
verbiage which is the corresponded to what Ariel saying such asking to “these
waters”, and “sand”. The receivers are the people above the sea, and the sayer
is Ariel itself. Also the lines seek for understanding of what Ariel felt and thoughts.

Relational Process

Bet'cha on land, they understand

That they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women, sick of swimming
Ready to stand

In this stanza, Arieal hoping that she could be understood when the time
comes that she could live in the land. The lines consists of relational attribute which
is the word “stand” and “turnouts” that they don’t reprimand their daughters and
seem or appear that Bright women is sick of swimming. Also, the relational identity
is the use of Arial feelings she expresses or indicated into.

Existential Process

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love, love to explore that shore up above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world

Existential is the last process and the lines seems that existential process is
visible. Ariel expresses how she wanted to exist outside the sea (human world) and
hoping she could be part of that world which is the main goal of the song. Asking if
she wouldn’t be love if she will love to explore the world above the sea is a
matter that she wants the human (people or the prince) know that she existed
underwater and wanted to part of world that she imagine/dreaming.
Elsa: Let it Go ; Show Yourself
Every inch of me is trembling All of my life
But not from the cold Oh, show yourself
Something is familiar Let me see who you are
Like a dream I can reach but not quite
hold Come to me now
I can sense you there Open your door
Like a friend I've always known Don't make me wait
I'm arriving One moment more
And it feels like I am home Oh, come to me now
Open your door
I have always been a fortress Don't make me wait
Cold secrets deep inside One moment more
You have secrets, too
But you don't have to hide Where the north wind meets the sea

Show yourself Ah ah ah ah
I'm dying to meet you There's a river
Show yourself
It's your turn Ah ah ah ah
Are you the one I've been looking for
All of my life? Full of memory
Show yourself Come, my darling, homeward bound
I'm ready to learn
I am found
Ah ah ah ah
Show yourself
Ah ah ah ah ah Step into your power
I've never felt so certain Throw yourself
All my life I've been torn Into something new
But I'm here for a reason You are the one you've been waiting
Could it be the reason I was born? for
I have always been so different
Normal rules did not apply All of my life
Is this the day?
All of your life
Are you the way
I finally find out why? Oh, show yourself
Show yourself Ah ah ah
I'm no longer trembling
Here I am Ah ah ah
I've come so far
Ah ah ah
You are the answer I've waited for
Elsa: Let it Go ; Show Yourself
Transitivity Analysis

The song "Show Yourself" is a song performed by Idina Menzel and Evan
Rachel Wood and written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for the 2019
Disney film Frozen II. Elsa travels across the Dark Sea to Ahtohallan while following
a mysterious voice. She delves into her memories, uncovering the truth about what
happened in the Enchanted Forest and the source of her abilities. As she goes
deeper towards the truth, she sings "Show Yourself."

The song begins with the first part where she travelled with her ice horse and
saw a cave covered with frozen stones. She saw the little dot lights like fireflies
which she follows and exposes the true beauty of her power, memories of her
mothers, and other untold stories.

Below let’s start analyzing using the process of transitivity and find out the
more about the process of participants/characters in the song.

Material Process

I have always been a fortress

Cold secrets deep inside
You have secrets, too
But you don't have to hide

For the material process, Elsa is the beneficiary of this song. It tells us on how
she got her power, from the origin of her family, and how she became a fortress. The
lines wanted us to understand the goal of Elsa is to know, to see, and to understand
the purpose of her life. The lines describe how she trusted and convince the voice to
show her/his self (which is the memories and source of her powers). Because of the
voice existed, Elsa slowly forget how fear she was and trembling. Knowing the
secrets benefits Elsa.
Mental Process

Every inch of me is trembling

But not from the cold
Something is familiar
Like a dream I can reach but not quite hold
I can sense you there
Like a friend I've always known
I'm arriving
And it feels like I am home
I have always been a fortress
Cold secrets deep inside
You have secrets, too
But you don't have to hide

The first and second stanza confirmed to be the mental process of the song. It
contains the process senses, thinking, seeking to know something which under
cognition, “Every inch of me is trembling But not from the cold.” Perception for the
hearing and seeing, “I can sense you there Like a friend I've always known” and
affection “And it feels like I am home”, “Something is familiar”. The lines are very
sensitive to the character (Elsa) the connection between the material and the
participants. The development of the mental process is from the beginning of the line
and to the last part of the song.

Behavioral Process

I've never felt so certain

All my life I've been torn
But I'm here for a reason
Could it be the reason I was born?
I have always been so different
Normal rules did not apply
Is this the day?
Are you the way
I finally find out why?

The stanza explains Elsa’s thoughts and emotions from being a child to
become a frozen or ice princess. Elsa behaves according to her experiences and
beliefs. She believed that she’s not normal and normal rules don’t apply to her “ I
have always been so different Normal rules did not apply.”
In this action, she is not sure about something, about the reason she got power, the
reason she’s alive. This kind of behavior process falls under psychological
behavior. So in order for her to solve her problem, she’s seeking for the voice
through these lines, Is this the day? Are you the wayI finally find out why?

Verbal Process

Show yourself
I'm dying to meet you
Show yourself
It's your turn
Are you the one I've been looking for
All of my life?
Show yourself
I'm ready to learn

In this stanza, Elza wanted to meet the thing (flying around the cave with the
voice telling Elsa to come), she wants to “show yourself.” This is referring to the
receiver and Elsa is tha sayer. It could be also identified as a target because
Elsa targeted the voice in every line she sang. Also stating and asking for that
voice to show is part of the verbal process under the modes of saying.

Relational Process

I can sense you there

Like a friend I've always known
I'm arriving
And it feels like I am home
I have always been a fortress
Cold secrets deep inside
You have secrets, too
But you don't have to hide

These lines here are part of the process of relational process. Regarding the
participants who can be involved in these processes, Elsa and the voice determined
as Carrier and Attribute. The lines explain how Elsa expresses her relation to a
familiar object/voice that existing in her life journey. This shows that Elsa
seeking for the voice who serves as her comfort zone, “And it feels like I am
home”. The relational process of both participants includes indicate
emotions/feelings.

Existential Process

All of my life
Oh, show yourself
Let me see who you are
Come to me now
Open your door
Don't make me wait
One moment more
Oh, come to me now
Open your door
Don't make me wait
One moment more

This stanza shows the existence of the participants, Elsa and the voice.
These represent experience by positing that “there was/is something” - All of
my life Oh, show yourself Let me see who you are Come to me now Open your door.
There is a (Process: existential) voice, let me see who you are, come to me, Elsa
said. (Existent). There is the only obligatory participant in this existential process that
is what so called as Existent.
