COLLEGE OF NURSING

MY RLE JOURNAL
The supposed to be two weeks of class suspension became two years of online
classes, turned every student’s typical college life into a whirl pool of mental, emotional
and physical exhaustion. Hours of sitting in front of our computers and mobile phones
almost drained every battery we had within ourselves. The supposed to be escape and
resting place after a tiring day we call home became a classroom we couldn’t escape.
The past two years of my college life revolved in a dragging race of staying afloat.

When the news came that sooner or later the school are ready to open again, the
student in me awoke from its slumber. I became excited to finally be out there again,
despite the risk of being a student nurse involved. I could not hide even my fellow
classmates can’t the excitement we felt being in the hospital again. We were excited in
our clinical rotations, but within this excitement we felt, we are a little scared inside that
maybe we aren’t still good enough to be practicing here in the field. But my classmates
and I knew that it is okay to be scared, because we get conscious and careful in
everything we do. Our IHM rotation came, we were welcomed with a warm reality of what
it really meant to be a nurse and what is the status of health care here in the Philippines
is. Being back in the hospital is a great opportunity for me to practice the theories I have
learned all through out the years I have spent here in nursing school. It is really different
to be able to have first-hand experience about the things that are written in the book. I will
never trade the experiences I have learned here in St. Anthony to other institution. I never
regret the choice I made to be enrolled here at St. Anthony. Everyone was nice and
friendly but at the same time open to teach us things. It was always a nice thing to feel
that there are people who are willing to teach us things we lack knowledge about. Being
able to admit to myself that what I know is still lacking is my first step of learning. In our
rotation in the IHM a lot of learning have been instilled in my mind, the learning I have
gathered is accompanied by the strength to take accountability of the mistakes I have
made and try my best to change and be better in the next case I am going to handle. I
started practicing presence of mind and starting to focus more on my actions to avoid
mistakes. I am grateful for our Clinical Instructors who have been very patient and
understanding.

I am thankful and always grateful for this opportunity that has been given
to us, because not everyone has the chance to be in the halls of the hospital again and
practice the theories that have been taught to us on real patients and real cases. Indeed,
this rotation taught me a lot of things that I will be able to utilize in the near future. I
dreamed of becoming competent and deliver nursing care to individual and families and
clients who are in need of help. And these experiences I have been in surely helped me
become the people I dreamed to be. I hope and pray that everyone in my class will
graduate in time and be able to become future Registered Nurses. I am always grateful
and blessed to have you as our Clinical Instructor Sir. Continue to mold and create great
and competent nurses, because you are the very foundation of this institution. Words will
never be enough to thank you and our other teachers in regards with all the sacrifices
and risk you have all been through to help us be in a better place and to have a successful
careers and life one day. We owe all our successes to you. We will surely make this worth

these experiences and opportunities you opened for us. God Bless you all.
