Manual BRM Lasercutter 'Getting Started'

1. Turn on main switch (large round switch) on laser-system. Small switch (red light) to turn on
the laser. Do not switch the other switches! Press 'reset' only after beeping stops!
2. The support table should be located to z=220.1 (mm). Use z+ to lift it.
3. Adjust distance between table (plus substrate) and laserhead to 6.5mm (focus length) using
the little plexiglass distance gauge (wedge) by loosening and tightening the two screws on
the laserhead.
4. Make sure that the substrate is positioned flat on the support table by using weights or
magnets.
5. Turn on the computer. The user name is Laser and the password is: laser.
6. Start the Software “LaserworkV6” and import your dxf-file on the computer.
7. Adjust settings for ‘power’ and ‘speed’ in the software. There are hardware samples in a
sample box with the suggestions for the settings.
There are different settings for ‘cut’ and for ‘scan’. Scan is less intense and only engraves the
material.
'Power' is given in a range of two values. The difference should be 3 to 5. The lower setting is
for lower speed (the movement of the laserhead slows down for sharp bendings).
8. Positioning
a. Use 'x' and 'y' to approach the zero point, press ‘origin’ to save this position.
If necessary slow down speed for fine adjustment.
b. Press 'pulse' to see where the laser is positioned (sets a small dot on the substrate)
9. Start the vacuum!! Switch on the vacuum unit.
10. Now you can either start the laser process directly from the window by pressing 'start' - or
better - download your image to the laser unit.
Pressing 'file' shows the downloaded files. The last one is selected. Press 'enter' to select and
activate your file. The image is displayed upside down. That’s always the case - don’t worry.
Pressing 'frame' shows the outer contour of the image on the substrate. You may increase
the speed for drawing the outer contour.
To start the cutting process press 'start'. You can stop all the time by using the 'stop' button.

11. Filetype:
Your file should contain lines only. Regardless the thickness of the lines in the file, the laser
has 0.07mm diameter. You could use different colours for the lines to control ‘cut’ or ‘scan’.
The type can be DXF (data exchange format) that can be written by CAD programs or Adobe
Illustrator. But it must be version 2007/2008/2009. Filetype PLT (from CAD programs) is also
possible.
