The country is made up of about 1,200 islands,4 of which 203 are
inhabited. The territory is located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of
Sri Lanka and 450 km from India.

2000 mm per year. Islam, which was introduced in 1153, is the
predominant and official religion. It was a Portuguese, Dutch and
British colony.
In 1953 an attempt was made to establish a republic but a few
months later the sultanate was reimposed. It gained independence in
1965 and in 1968 the republic was reinstated. It is the least

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO, was

established by the General Assembly in 1966 as the body responsible for
promoting and accelerating industrialization in developing countries. It is also
known by its acronym in English: UNIDO.

It became a specialized agency in 1979, but became a fully autonomous

agency on January 1, 1986. UNIDO promotes cooperation between
industrialized and developing countries to accelerate industrial development
by stimulating investment promotion and technology transfer activities.

was prepared in the context of the ambitions of

the decade of action and the global socio-
economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19
pandemic. The crisis further highlighted the
problems of poverty, inequality and human
development that hamper sustainable
development initiatives worldwide. It also
highlighted the vulnerability of the productive
sectors and the critical role they play in ensuring
socio-economic resilience and fostering inclusive and sustainable recovery.

The covid-19 pandemic affecting the entire world has changed our life as we
knew it. Millions of people no longer go to the office every day to work, but
stay at home with their computer. There are no more coffee breaks with co-
workers, but minutes off to take care of your children or your dependents.

also, many people were unemployed, other companies closed down and
others went bankrupt.
one of the solutions that have been proposed is for the UNIDO organization
to produce more jobs, buildings among others.
