LOAD CALCULATIONS
Dead Load & Live Load (BS 6399: Part I, Part II)
In addition to the self-weight of the frame structure the imposed loads & wind loads are taken into account.

1. Dead Load ( Self Wight of frame +Glass Load)

Glass Load imposed load

Weight Glass Panel ( Effective thickness of Glass15mm) is 40.5kg/sqm =0.41KN/SqM

2. Wind Load ( Refer Wind Load calculation attached separate)

Wind load corresponding to basic wind speed of 25m/s is considered as per BS: 6399 – part II .
Upward and downward Wind load is considered as acting as plate load( in STAAD) on the aluminum panels
fixed to the Curtainwall.

Refer Separate calculation attached

Maximum wind pressure acting on Curtain wall = 1.14 KN/M2 ( Acting downward)

Load acting on members

Area of Load tributary rectangle = (1.48 x3.85) = 5.7SqM

Glass load distribution

 UDL along the bearing edge of rectangular panel = (0.41 x 5.7)/3.85= 0.6 KN/m=0.6 N/mm

Wind load distribution( upward)

 UDL along the bearing edge of rectangular panel = (0.87 x 5.7)/3.85 = 1.28KN/m=1.28N/mm

Page 4
3. Other loads considered ( Refer to consultants comments on Ref#SD-020-REV.0)
 Live load 0.24 KN/m2
 Concentrated load 0.89 KN at the middle of the system
 Distributed load 0.72 KN/m acting at 1.14m ( ie 0.72 N/mm)
o Distributed load considered as nodal load on the nodes of 148mm wide elements
o Hence load considered in STAAD = .72*148 = 107N

These loads with appropriate combination is assigned to members modeled in STAAD.

5.2 Load Combinations

The following load combinations which is the maximum expected critical load combination is taken for the
design of the structure.

Combination for strength considerations

a) :1.2 DL+1.2 LL+1.2WL

Combination for serviceability conditions : 1DL+1LL+0.8WL

Load Calculations
1. Self weight
a. Self weight of Frame will be automatically calculated by STAAD Pro

6. MODELLING

The proposed Curtainwall is modeled as a space model using STAAD Pro. software as shown in the Fig .

End Support considered as restrained in X,Y & Z directions.

Now as the static analysis is carried out to obtain the design forces us on STAAD Pro.

Verification of Mullion profile

Maximum span of Mullion , L = 3850 mm

From STAAD Pro
Maximum Bending Moment = 2.01KNm
As per the STAAD output
Maximum Deflection = 6.4
Length of rafter = 3850 mm
Allowable deflection = L/240+6.35mm for L > = 22.39mm
Actual deflection < Allowable deflection Hence safe

Page 10
Check for Bending Moment
Max Bending Mment = 2.09 KNm
Bending stress on aluminum = Moment /Section Modulus= 2.09x106/18257.5= 114.47N/mm2
Limiting stress on aluminum ( 6063 T6)=160/1.2 =133.3 N/mm2 > 114.47 N/mm2
Stress ratio in aluminum 114.47/133.33 = 0.85 <1
Hence safe
