INEQUALITY

CONDITIONS FOR COMBINING TWO INEQUALITIES

Two inequalities will be combined if and only if they have a common term.
Golden rule to draw conclusions
We can draw a definite conclusion if and only if all the signs in the combined inequality are pointing in the same
direction. i.e. A sample

Type Definite conclusions Explanation

A≤B≤C ≤D A=D 1. A=D As equal sign is present at every position between A and D
A<D 2. A < D as all signs between A and D points to same direction
A≤D 3. A ≤ D combine above two cases

A≤B< C ≤D A<D A ≠D as equal to sign is not present at all positions between A and D
A≥B≥C≥D A=D Similar explanations as in case 1
A>D
A≥ D
A≥B≥C>D A>D
A≤B≥C ≤D NO CONCLUSION All signs not point to same direction
